Alt-J wins the 2012 Mercury Prize

Indie quartet Alt-J has won the 2012 Mercury Prize for its debut album, An Awesome Wave. The annual prize is awarded for the best album from Ireland and the United Kingdom. Alt-J joins PJ Harvey, Pulp, The xx, Arctic Monkeys, and Portishead among the ranks of Mercury Prize winners. This time around, though, none of the other nominees were particularly well known on this side of the pond.

West coast music fans that want to check Alt-J out are in luck. The band is playing a short tour in December, including a show in Kansas City with Passion Pit. A full list of dates is below.

Dec. 13—Casbah—San Diego, California
Dec. 15—Star Theater—Portland, Oregon
Dec. 16—Midland Theater—Kansas City, Kansas (with Passion Pit)
