Happy Galentine’s Day, A.V. Club readers! Our gift to you is a chat with one of the founders of the holiday, Amy Poehler. She’s got a new show, Duncanville, premiering this weekend on Fox, which she co-created, produces, and stars in as both the mother and the teenage son. In the interview above, we talk about the cartoons Poehler grew up watching, the particular quirks of teen boys hanging out at malls, and how she’ll be celebrating Galentine’s Day this year.

Had not heard of the concept of “Galentine’s Day” before–but seriously, Valentine’s Day is for women.  People know that, right?

Coincidentally, I watched an episode of Parks and Rec a couple days ago where Amy Poehler does a galentine’s day thing, so I guess it’s existed that long at least.

Galentine’s is about celebrating the day/night with your girlfriends, regardless of who’s single and who isn’t. Same thing as “Palentine’s”, which is starting to make the rounds.Valentine’s is definitely about romance, so it’s not the same. It also includes all couples, regardless of whether they’re women.

Is it me, or do those character designs look like a mish-mosh of every show on Fox’s Animation Domination block?
