Baby terror abounds in the season 2 teaser for M. Night Shyamalan's Servant

One of Apple TV+’s more striking entries in the streaming wars was Servant, a flawed but intriguing thriller created by Tony Basgallop and executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan. Could it stand to obfuscate a bit less? Absolutely, but its story of the “reborn doll” that takes on a new form upon the arrival of a mysterious nanny offers an unnerving and austere exploration of grief.

Today, Apple TV+ dropped some photos and a teaser for the second season, due to kick off at the beginning of 2021. Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, and Rupert Grint—each playing intriguingly awful characters—return, as does Nell Tiger Free’s Leanne, who left our heroes in the lurch at the end of season one. The season’s synopsis teases a “supernatural turn”—we figured—and a reveal of Leanne’s “true nature.” Based on this trailer, we’re guessing cults are involved.

Check it out below:

Servant’s 10-episode second season premieres on January 15, with new episodes dropping weekly.

Is this what M. Night is up to instead of making a Godkillers movie?

I don’t know if I would have tuned in for the entire first season if Lauren Ambrose wasn’t so great and truly kooky in it, plus the shots of the house and the food were lovely to look at, so back I shall return.

Man oh man, I cannot wait. I freaking loved every minute of this show. I love the close, uncomfortable filming style. I love the almost comically oppressive tone. It’s hilarious. Watching these yuppies try to put their best faces forward in light of so much ominous weirdness kills me. Lauren Ambrose was born for this role. Toby Kebbel is able to emote ‘exhausted husband’ better than almost anybody I’ve ever seen. I’m so psyched for more of all of it. Best horror show on tv.

    Flawed? FLAWED?
Even clicking for an innocent trailer one cannot be free of the unwarranted snarkitude of the flawed AV Club.

This show was so weird and the characters so weird yet almost normal. I loved it.
