We’ve knocked out the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and Primetime Emmys in the past few weeks, but award season is far from over. Today, we got a glimpse into how some of the year’s top films are faring across the pond as Naomi Ackie and Kingsley Ben-Adir announced this year’s BAFTA nominations at a live press conference.

Like other shows that have already announced their nominations, the BAFTAs heaped a lot of love on frontrunners like Oppenheimer, Killers Of The Flower Moon, Poor Things, and Past Lives. Oppenheimer leads with 13 nominations, while Poor Things is a close second with 11 nominations.

There are a few surprises here. Saltburn is receiving a lot more love in England than the United States, with acting nominations for Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, and Rosamund Pike. This makes sense as the Emerald Fennell-directed feature is a British film, but it’s still a bit of a shock to the system to see these names come up after being passed over in so many other ceremonies. Newcomer Dominic Sessa also scored a nomination for his work in The Holdovers, which was nice to see.

These inclusions, of course, come at the expense of other worthy work. Far and away the biggest snub here is no inclusion of Lily Gladstone for lead actress in Killers Of The Flower Moon, even though the film is nominated for other things. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio also failed to score nominations for their work. The film received nine nominations overall.

Even before this announcement, this year’s BAFTAs were beset by a touch of controversy. The longlist for this year’s Supporting Actor award was released in advance of the official nominations and fans were quick to spot that May December standout Charles Melton was not on it, nor were his costars Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman in their respective categories. May December didn’t get any love from the SAG Awards either. We’ll see if the film can turn things around when Oscar nominations are officially announced next week.

The BAFTAs will be held in London on February 18 with David Tennant as host. The full list of nominations is below:
