Beef won an Emmy as a limited series, but the creator would still be up for making more

Netflix’s Beef just won a handful of Emmy awards earlier this week, including Outstanding Limited Series, but what is a limited series—even an award-winning one—if not a one-season TV show that hasn’t had an opportunity to get renewed? The White Lotus continued on past its “limited series” run, American Crime Story won a few times, Big Little Lies and Fargo and Downton Abbey all got multiple seasons. Really, if you can’t find a way to turn your Emmy-winning limited series into a regular TV show, then you’ve dropped the ball (looking at you, Chernobyl, as if there were no further stories to tell about Valery Legasov after… his death).

Anyway, Beef creator Lee Sung Jin has been open about his desire to keep the show going in some form even before its big Emmy win, teasing last April that he has a three seasons “mapped out” in his head that may or may not still revolve around Danny (Steven Yeun) and Amy (Ali Wong). Lee also mentioned having “one really big general idea” about continuing the show, but that’s as specific as he would be.

At the Emmys, though, Lee noted that there are “so many paths” to potentially take the show down, now saying it could be an anthology if Netflix wanted some more Beef (via Deadline). “It could be many things,” he added. “It’s up to the great algorithm. We’re all waiting to hear.” In other words, it sounds like he’s up for whatever, it’s just a matter of The Machines that run things at Netflix to tell him what they want (beyond, presumably, killing John Connor and ensuring the successful launch of Skynet, which are things that all Machines want).
