Greg Berlanti is more than a television producer. He’s one of Time’s most influential people in the world. Berlanti’s turned the CW into the Graceland of mid-budget superhero and mystery shows based on old comic books—spearheading not only the Arrow-verse but also Riverdale and a laundry list of shows indebted to the adventures of hot Archie.

CW isn’t here to rock the boat, though. They’re here to bring you the shows you love that inspire the fan-fiction you read. So it’s no surprise that the CW gave early renewal to a slew of shows people can’t get enough of. Most importantly, The Flash will be returning for season nine, and Riverdale is back for season seven.

But that’s not all. The CW is also bringing back its spate of reboots, remakes, and re-imaginings. Kung Fu, Nancy Drew, Superman & Lois, and Walker are all on the rebound. This should please anyone waiting for the new Walker, Texas Ranger to tell a little boy that he has a terminal illness.

The CW deals in the Berlanti productions and things that seem like they would be Berlanti productions, but they also have a bunch of fantastic magic shows. Televisions’ preeminent sleight of hand showcases, Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Masters Of Illusion, are re-appearing for season nine. As is something called Worlds Funniest Animals, a show that probably isn’t about magic, but it sounds like it could be magical.

While a Fool Us marathon is probably the best way to overcome a hangover on a Sunday morning, it’s probably not why most people are reading this. You want to know about Riverdale and The Flash. Alas, they only tell us that they’re returning.

Just a stray thought: When will they get around to giving Scooby-Doo the Riverdale treatment? Come on, Berlanti. We want sexy Shaggy!

Pretty good troll using the permalinks to Flash & Superman reviews when they’re not a thing here anymore!
Nancy getting renewed is the best news! Giving the side-eye to the lack of early renewal for Legends & Batwoman, but maybe they’re working stuff out still? They have until May upfronts, so can’t be too concerned yet.

    • Aurynsworld-av says:

I gave Nancy Drew a shot when it premiered because I was bored and wanted something new to watch, and I am still surprised at how much I love it.

    • dr-boots-list-av says:

      Yay for more Nancy

Did the third season get better as it went on?  I loved the first two seasons and I was disappointed enough in the third that I kinda stopped watching (just stopped making time for it)

      • fireupabove-av says:

I pretty actively enjoyed the third season, it had a good big bad & high stakes, and even the plotlines I didn’t care a whole lot about did end up tying up nicely. The finale was pretty excellent and it set things up nicely for season 4.

      • dr-boots-list-av says:

It gets way better once Olivia Taylor Dudley shows up. She was so great on The Magicians, it’s awesome seeing her in a fantasy show again.

Most importantly, The Flash will be returning for season nine …
Most importantly would be confirming if Legends of Tomorrow has been cancelled or renewed for an eighth season.
And fix kinja. Reformatting copied text just because there’s a link in it is crap.

They need to renew Legends. If only because Katrina Law did a recent interview where she said she’d be in on Nyssa attending/crashing the baby shower

      • shotmyheartandiwishiwasntok-av says:

Would depend on the schedule since she’s on the main cast of NCIS right now.

        • starvenger88-av says:

Well yeah. The interview where they meander into Legends was actually concerning the NCIS/NCIS Hawaii crossover.

    • tormentedthoughts3rd-av says:

I basically came here to see if Legends was renewed or not, and I don’t even watch the show. But on the Scrubs podcast, Donald Faison said that he’ll be a regular in S8 if renewed and Zach Braff said he’ll play Ted Kord if asked.

      • ghboyette-av says:

I’d take him as Ted Kord but would probably prefer him as Skeets.

        • mackyart-av says:

Given it’s the Berlantiverse, Skeets would end up being a humanoid robot with a romantic interest in Gideon (and learning the wonders of being human). I’d rather see both Faison and Braff hamming it up in goofy Booster and Ted costumes.

          • elforman-av says:

And set up a love triangle between Gideon, Gary and Skeets? I’d rather Gideon and Gary remain a happy couple with no drama. Their relationship is the perfect level of ridiculous and I don’t want anything messing that up.

        • ruefulcountenance-av says:

          Evil Skeets from 52.

      • murrychang-av says:

Holy crap that would be awesome!

      • freshfromrikers-av says:

This article should mainly be about whether DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is being renewed or not, no? I just watched season 7 and when Faison revealed he was Booster Gold I nearly fell out of my chair. He was a lot of fun, and I’d love to see him go big in season 8. Also, there’s no reason to ever cancel this show because similar to it’s main influence (Doctor Who) you can just continually recast and bring in new actors. As long as the writers and show runner are solid there’s no reason it can’t maintain it’s current quality.

TAKE A(NOTHER) CHANCE ON SARA LANCE!

    • hootiehoo2-av says:

For most of the season I felt like Legends fell off (and I didn’t care for season 6) but man did those last 5 episodes all go great. I want my damn Booster Gold season with Donald Faison!

  • lisarowe-av says:

i only watch batwoman and i’d love for another season just because i love the show but if they ended it where they did it works for me. it seemed like a decent ending for the show. i just love the cast so much so i want more.

    • smittywerbenjagermanjensen22-av says:

This was a good bounce-back season of Batwoman & hot damn Sophie & Ryan are a smoking hot & surprisingly adorable couple

  • smittywerbenjagermanjensen22-av says:

Happy for Kung Fu to be renewed, a very tight and fun show with a great cast

NANCY DREW, BABY! So happy to see it renewed for another season! It really is an amazing show, and I’m glad to see that rewarded.

  • shotmyheartandiwishiwasntok-av says:

Hot take: Flash Season 8 has been pretty fun so far.

    • luasdublin-av says:

yeah they seem to have dialled back the angst about 2000% and embraced silliness :the speedy twins in last weeks episode, Goldface somehow chandelling the Venture bros with his Villain with relationship goals and a henchman who didn’t read Moby Dick , despite being given a first edition for his birthday.

I guess I’m missing out but I’ve never been able to enjoy anything on The CW. It all seems like teen dramas and the superhero shows all look like cosplay.

They are the home of the current incarnation of Whose Line is it Anyway?

      • starvenger88-av says:

        And Fool Us.

      • richardalinnii-av says:

I was hoping to see if that got renewed. That has been my favorite show (every iteration of it) since I started watching the British version that got played on The Comedy Channel (now Comedy Central).

    • freshfromrikers-av says:

I think they work pretty well if you’re kind of halfway paying attention. The story beats are pretty consistent so you can look up occasionally and see someone in a bright costume getting brained by a CGI gorilla. Having said that, I pay closer attention to Legends.

  • msparks923-av says:

Damn it, I thought someone had made Kate Berlant a showrunner.

  • lhosc-av says:

Auto renew LoT for life CoWards! I hope they’re not trying to appease their future owners by sacking the most LGTBQ positive show on the network m

“ a Fool Us marathon is probably the best way to overcome a hangover on a Sunday morning “Mix in the dregs from last night’s dead soldiers and this works amazingly well.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for more LEGENDS! The Flash has done a decent job of righting the ship this season, so I’m happy to see it’s coming back for another go.SUPERMAN AND LOIS continues to impress me with just how good it is. It’s on a whole other level to The Flash, by which I mean it doesn’t feel like an Arrowverse show at all. Really excited to see where the rest of season two goes, especially after they killed [redacted]!

  • themightymanotaur-av says:

Oh come on the only thing we care about is if Legends got renewed.

  • jmyoung123-av says:

I would be happy if Stargirl was returned to HBOMax.

  • sven-t-sexgore-av says:

Very happy to see the Kung Fu renewal. Unless season 2 shits the bed it’s been a really fun show with a great cast.

    • smittywerbenjagermanjensen22-av says:

s2 of Kung Fu is starting out promisingly, I am especially happy to have ghost Pei-Ling back but haunting someone other than Nicky, surprisinglyThe long lost cousin is annoying so far but hopefully that is intentional & she will have a good arc

I only watch Superman & Lois, and only on HBO Max. Can’t stand the CW app. It’s not just that it has commercials. It’s that it plays the SAME commercial over and over again.
