Update 10:30 AM: The LAPD has arrested the man who allegedly tackled Chappelle during his Netflix Is A Joke set, Deadline reports. 23-year-old Isaiah Lee was apprehended for assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $30,000 bail, LAPD Public Information Officer Mendez told the outlet.

Dave Chappelle was tackled by a man who rushed the stage during his performance at the Hollywood Bowl late Tuesday evening. Attendees of the event, which was a part of the Netflix Is A Joke Festival, shared video footage of the incident on social media.

In various clips that are making the rounds, after the unknown man appears to charge at and ultimately take Chappelle down to the ground, he is pulled away by security.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the attack, and said that the assailant was carrying a weapon that could “eject a knife.” However, at this time, it’s still unknown if he actually tried to use the weapon.

The LAPD also confirmed that the assailant was a member of the audience, and was taken to the hospital for “superficial injuries”—injuries presumably sustained when he was detained by security. In one video uploaded to Twitter, a man is seen on a gurney with his arm and elbow severely bent. And in another video, the same man is loaded onto an ambulance.

Daily Beast reports that it wasn’t just security who worked to apprehend him, it was also actor/comedian Jamie Foxx. After the scuffle, Foxx was brought back onstage where he called Chappelle a “genius” who needed to be “protected at all times.”

Buzzfeed reporter Brianna Sacks, who attended the event, also says that before he was tackled, Chappelle discussed how he beefed up his security in the wake of the Oscars slap. Chris Rock was also at the Hollywood Bowl that night, and he reportedly joked that Chappelle’s alleged attacker was Will Smith, referring to the now-infamous awards show moment.

Daily Beast says immediately after the attack, Chappelle made a joke of his own, reportedly saying the assailant was a “trans man”—seemingly referring to the controversy he courted earlier this year with the transphobic jokes he made in his Netflix special The Closer.

After the special aired and subsequently received widespread backlash and ire, Netflix chief Ted Sarandos threw his support behind Chappelle and the special—a move that lead Netflix employees to stage a walkout in protest.

The LAPD says Chappelle did not sustain any injuries from the Hollywood Bowl assault.

You would think that given their plummeting stock value and subscriber numbers Netflix would consider a different name for their comedy festival.

yup, I knew all the people who fainted over the Will Smith Smack (and Will Smith is a tool) of Chris Rock are going to point to this as say “see See! See!” but fuck Chapelle for his transphobia and in general for becoming a jackass Boomer in his 40’s (I think he and I are the same age). He can fuck off and I’m never giving him any of my money anymore.

and Will Smith is a toolOh, come on. A comedian told a joke about his wife’s appearance.Clearly he had no other option but to rush the stage and slap him.

It’s not good that people are feeling emboldened to get on the stage and put their hands on performers. Even more concerning that an apparently deranged person got into the Hollywood Bowl with a knife.I haven’t been there in a while, but I recall bag checks and metal detectors at the entrance.

    • charliedesertly-av says:

Hey, come on — this web site ideologically needs you to support this kind of incident.

    • i-miss-splinter-av says:

It’s not good that people are feeling emboldened to get on the stage and put their hands on performers.

Is that the case, though? Is this happening in comedy clubs across the country? No, it’s not.

      • dirtside-av says:

Hey, don’t you know that a sample size of 1 is enough to draw major statistical conclusions?!

        • martyfunkhouser1-av says:

          Sample size is twice that.

          • dirtside-av says:

The argument is that the Smith event will trigger future events. The Smith event itself is not evidence of that. (Actually, the sample size is in the thousands, since there have been numerous stand-up sets performed since the Smith event, and this is the only one so far where someone was attacked)

          • martyfunkhouser1-av says:

I was just making a joke cuz it’s AVC, but Ok, if you say so.

          • chris-finch-av says:

What really bugs me is the idea that Smith is a pivot point, as though nobody has tried (or succeeded at) rushing a stage before the 2022 Oscars. Doing and watching comedy, I can assure y’all that people try to fuck with performers all the time.

          • dpdrkns-av says:

I’ve seen two comedians get punched on stage and I’m someone who goes to a comedy show maybe once a year. The first time was over a decade ago. The Will Smith thing was actually pretty mild in comparison to both events.

        • listlessvoid-av says:

It’s crazy what a sack of shit you are.

        • billber-av says:

Happens more than you’d realize but comedians aren’t reeeeing about it.

      • roboj-av says:

No matter how you feel about Chapelle, that doesn’t change his point though that this is pretty alarming that someone was able to easily able to jump on stage to try and kill a performer.

        • i-miss-splinter-av says:

Are there questions Hollywood Bowl should answer? Of course. But OP implied that this is something that’s happening more & more often, which it really isn’t.

          • listlessvoid-av says:

I’m sure you have a lot of insight into that. I’m sure it’s not that you assume that you not hearing about something means it doesn’t exist.

          • dirtside-av says:

You have evidence of a rash of comedian attacks since the Smith event? Please share.

            *shocked-pikachu.gif*

          • roboj-av says:

No, he directly said how its bad that armed people feel emboldened enough to attack performers on stage. And yes, lots of famous, mostly music performers, have been attacked/rushed by fans on stage before many times over the years, hence why security is usually high at this things which is what he also said by mentioning the metal detectors.

        • captain-splendid-av says:

Bob’s Country Bunker has fencing in front of the stage. Maybe other venues could try that?

        • chris-finch-av says:

Considering he ended up hospitalized, I wouldn’t call that “easy.”

          • roboj-av says:

Did you watch the video? He very easily just casually climbed up on stage and went for him. No security or any kind of barrier, as it was Chapelle who initially fought him off. If the attacker had a bigger knife or had a loaded gun, Chapelle would’ve been done for.

        • rogersachingticker-av says:

That they were able to? No. Comedians often work in great proximity to their audiences, Chapelle works at a lot of clubs where someone could get at him and only barely leave their seat. The answer here isn’t taller stages or a chicken wire fence between him and the audience. It’s disturbing that someone did jump on stage and attack him, however. The stuff that keeps that from happening is social norms and the threat of security (the thing that was lacking in the millionaire-on-millionaire slap at the Oscars). Luckily, security did their job, and Chapelle was unhurt enough that he could immediately make an extremely tasteless and bigoted joke about it. Sadly, our social norms seem to have hit an iceberg and are currently sinking somewhere in the North Atlantic.

          • roboj-av says:

Except that as mentioned, this wasn’t some hole in a wall bar or comedy club, this was a major and large scale venue with lots more people and tons more security. Regardless of who is performing and in light of all the mass shootings lately, it should not be that easy for an armed person to sneak weapons in, jump on stage, and attack the performer. That’s the takeaway people should be getting from this and not reveling in delight that he got attacked or downplaying it because he didn’t get injured. This could’ve been a lot worse for the audience, and/or the backstage staff and security too and thank goodness they didn’t get hurt either. Yes, it is sad that our social norms have gone out the window that the very liberals that decry violence from the right are now justifying it because he’s a bigot.

          • roboj-av says:

So much for “I’m out” eh? You really couldn’t just take that breather.lol. And you’re calling me weird.

          • rogersachingticker-av says:

The bigger point is that there’s always a spectrum between security and the fan experience. Too much security can hinder people’s ability to enjoy the show, and people enjoying themselves and wanting to go to more live events is kind of the point of the project. Too little security, and people—performers and fans—can get hurt. There’s a real question as to how the guy snuck a weapon in past security—that may have something to do with the fact that the cops seem to have difficulty even describing it, so maybe it was disguised as something else. Otherwise, security seems to have done their job well, stopping the attack before the victim was seriously harmed.I haven’t seen anyone “delighting” in the attack. I have seen a few people suggesting he deserved it, and saying that they’re not that broken up over it and/or wouldn’t have been broken up if he’d gotten hurt. Those are shitty attitudes to have. But the main reason it’s been downplayed is because Chapelle himself downplayed it, first with the fucked up punching down joke, and later with a statement that tried to talk about everything except Chapelle being attacked. If he’s not going to take it seriously, why should you be treating it like it was the 9/11 terrorist attack? It’s not exactly an unprecedented occurrence. As to the rest, there’s a level of right wing thinking that lacks empathy, ridicules the concept of empathy and nonviolence, and trolls anyone who displays empathy, and then goes “Where’s your empathy now, libs?” whenever anyone who’s to the left of them gets mad. And the answer is, they’re liberals, not saints. You troll them enough they lose their temper. That doesn’t put them at moral equivalence with people who are routinely cruel and who only consider empathy as a rhetorical gambit. The things some people are saying are not nice, but Chapelle’s happily pissed away a lifetime of goodwill in record time. I’m glad he’s okay, I hope he doesn’t get attacked again, but that aside, I don’t much give a damn about him anymore.

          • roboj-av says:

You still continue and insisting miss the point and get it wrong and not even get what happened here.
Security failed big time. Someone was able to sneak weapons into a venue, easily climb up on stage, and physically put hands on Dave. It failed, because the attacker goofed and was clearly an amateur, and Chappelle was able to successfully fight him off. His security guys intervened too late.
You still continue to miss the fact that if the attacker had a real loaded gun or a bigger knife, and actually knew how to successfully use those things, this would’ve been catastrophic for the audience, and backstage staff who could’ve been killed/injured in the process. Chappelle certainly didn’t downplay it. He is pressing charges. He joked about it to mask and cover up the fact that he was probably terrified, and try to put a brave face on it and calm everyone down. And even if he downplays it, saying yet again, in light of mass shootings/attacks, especially at concerts lately, people should be concerned at least that someone was able to make it to the stage with a gun. Its a sign and symbol of our gun and violence problem that one can’t go to or perform a concert without concern for their lives.
Saying again, security was already high. There are metal detectors and pat downs, yet someone still got through with weapons and got on stage. But because its Dave Chapelle, you’re all “nbd” but if this had been Trevor Noah or Lady Gaga, you’d be horrified and be calling for more security, gun control, and etc.
Chapelle being a bigot that pissed away a lifetime of goodwill in record time and even throwing in an anti-trans joke to boot after the attack does not justify violence towards him. Period. That is the beginning and end of the argument and debate. All other discussion should be how to prevent violence at concerts and shows. All the commenters here proved is the horseshoe theory of politics is not just a meme, there is some truth to it as far as liberals just as capable of ugly behavior, thoughts, and rhetoric as the right. It’s just really sad that this comment section is barely better than Reddit these days as far as an echo chamber full of immature idiots.

          • rogersachingticker-av says:

You obviously don’t know anything about venue security, and are just here to sell your “both sides!/horseshoe theory” nonsense. So two points:One, the DA has decided to not even charge this guy with a felony. That’s NBD from law enforcement. Yeah, Chapelle could’ve potentially been in great danger, but it turns out he actually wasn’t. Stay in a tizzy about that if you like. Two, your side of the so-called “horseshoe” has been trying to eliminate the ability of venues like this to disarm their patrons. So what are you on about?

          • roboj-av says:

I’m sorry, are you an expert on venue security? And how is that even relevant to any of the points that intentionally missed: that despite the security, someone managed to bum-rush the stage with weapons and harm a performer? The DA downgraded the charge from a felony because the gun was fake. He’s still being charged with multiple counts of assault and battery and attacking a performer. He will do serious time in jail if convicted. Thanks for being the next contestant to prove exactly what I mean by an echo chamber full of immature idiots. Seems that none of you here can barely maintain a mature conversation past one post without quickly loosing your temper and descending into acting like petulant teenagers that don’t get their way. It’s incredible. Sad really how this once great website has descended into essentially Reddit junior, only with more self-righteousness prick. At least right-wingers are more honest and upfront with being dicks. You all hide behind passive aggressive virtual signaling, but still act like dickheads to anyone who doesn’t automatically agree with your narrow minded ideology. Looking forward to your reply which will have more childish immature insults.

          • rogersachingticker-av says:

I see you’re still experiencing the vapors. Getting more histrionic isn’t going to help. There’s nothing serious about your posts. I tried taking you seriously, and you just showed that you don’t understand the things you’re talking about. While I wouldn’t call myself a security expert, I clearly know more than you do. Weirdly, a lot of that knowledge I picked up volunteering for conservative candidates in my wayward youth, and we would have to negotiate things like access and closeness to the candidate and entrance points, and we would have to coordinate with venue security and law enforcement, which sometimes included Secret Service. (In those situations, some rando rushing the stage would’ve been a major security fail.) Meanwhile, you’re under the assumption that magnetometers and patdowns constitute “high” security at a stadium show in Los Angeles. Any person of color could disabuse you of that notion. As for the assailant, given that he didn’t injure Chapelle, and security beat him pretty badly, the only way he would see what amounts to “serious” in misdemeanor time (which is more jail time than I’d like to serve, but not “serious” in the large scale of things) is if he has priors, or there’s some level of intent that hasn’t been revealed (and they almost certainly wouldn’t have taken felony charges off the table if there was).

          • roboj-av says:

Annnd right on cue, more childish insults. And what’s particularly stupid about you and so many others here, is that you expect to be taken and considered seriously. Is that how it works with your fellow 19 years old in the subreddits you frequent? Are you that much of a internet sociopath that you can’t control your emotions and devolve into a sputtering manbaby when someone disagrees with you even slightly? What do you hope to achieve spending your free time yelling obscenities to a total stranger on the internet that wasn’t even speaking to you in the first place? Do you seriously think you are going to get me to agree with you and change my mind? Do you not understand that’s not how you talk to people in real life? Anyone who disagrees with you is a “conservative?” Are you freaking kidding? Where are the adults here? Its all Bernie Bro babies in this comment section. Its laughable that anyone would hire you for anything, which is why I call BS on all your so-called experience. But go on, keep replying with more condescending personal attacks and insults. • satanscheerleaders-av says:

That seems to be a bit of an exaggeration.

    • dirtside-av says:

Hey, both things can be true: it sucks that Chapelle got attacked, and Chapelle also sucks.

    • drkschtz-av says:

      Shut the fuck up assclown

    • pete-worst-av says:

When you grow up, maybe you’ll realize that two things can be true at the same time.

    • weirdstalkersareweird-av says:

Two things can be true:1. Dave Chappelle has gotten increasingly hacky in his middle age, to the point that I neither enjoy his comedy nor the person he has become (based on his own words and behavior).2. People do not have the right to assault performers.

      • listlessvoid-av says:

You can also be bald, and ALSO ugly. And also stupid.

      • wuthaniel-av says:

This is really the main take away. Dave’s said gross things. Applauding Dave’s assault is gross.

      • blpppt-av says:

“2. People do not have the right to assault performers.
I’d argue they certainly do when its people like say, Nick Fuentes, Andy Ngo, or Little Ben Shapiro.People who knowingly spread hate for a profit. They deserve what they get.

      • bembrob-av says:

I wish point 2. was more broad to include any person or animal but this is the world we live in.

    • iamamarvan-av says:

Dave Chappelle is a hatemonger. That’s what people are against. You’re what if scenario is so stupid, it’s understandable why you’d rush to defend a piece of shit like Dave Chappelle

      • listlessvoid-av says:

No one cares what you think.

      • whyysooseriouss-av says:

Acknowledging biological reality is not hatemongering.  You’re a moron.

      • roboj-av says:

Maybe when you grow up from making childish attacks at strangers on internet comment sections, you’ll realize that being a hatemonger does not justify violence and being attacked on stage for it. Dave Chapelle is a bigoted POS but he doesn’t deserve to get stabbed on stage from it either. End of debate.

        • iamamarvan-av says:

Show me where I said he deserved it? I was responding directly to that poster’s claim that if Hitler was trans, people that don’t like Dave Chappelle would be all for the holocaust. Maybe invest in some third grade reading comprehension

          • roboj-av says:

Your entire post that looks like it was written and reasoned by a third grader instead of a grown ass adult for starters, where you exactly said: “why you’d rush to defend a piece of shit like Dave Chappelle” because where is he exactly and explicitly defending Dave Chappelle? He’s calling out the double standards of people like you, not coming to his defense. Derp!

          • iamamarvan-av says:

And what grade level is the post saying people that are against hate speech against a marginalized group are pro-Hitler?

          • roboj-av says:

The one you flunked out of when you intentionally misread his post to read it as defending Chapelle which he absolutely did not do.

          • iamamarvan-av says:

Coming out swinging that hard for people who don’t like Dave Chappelle sure feels like he’s defending him and saying all pro-trans people would be pro-Hitler if Hitler was trans sure feels a little anti-trans. Also, you still haven’t pointed out where I said Chappelle deserved it but do please keep talking about my reading comprehension

          • roboj-av says:

Coming out swinging that hard for people who don’t like Dave Chappelle sure feels like he’s defending him and saying all pro-trans people would be pro-Hitler if Hitler was trans sure feels a little anti-trans. By your childish and third grade reasoning, sure. But those of us living in the world of the grown ups, that isn’t what he’s saying at all. But go on, keep cheering on violent attacks on people you don’t like because of the things they say.

          • iamamarvan-av says:

You’re still accusing me of cheering his attack on when I’ve literally never said anything like it. You even ignored me when I asked you to point out where. You’re arguing in bad faith, so I’m out

          • roboj-av says:

You’re arguing in bad faith, so I’m out Bye Bye utter sociopath that logs online to make comments cheering on violent attacks on people that he disagrees with.

        • captain-splendid-av says:

“Maybe when you grow up from making childish attacks at strangers on internet”This isn’t about you, dude.

        • SquidEatinDough-av says:

Yeah he kinda does, actually. He’s still safer than a trans person.

    • milligna000-av says:

That just makes you sound like a weirdo who’s defensive about a rich guy

    • universeman75-av says:

Wow, it didn’t take long for Godwin’s Law to take effect here. You lose.

    • dresstokilt-av says:

Hmm, yeah, I hear what you’re saying.Fuck you, too.

    • chris-finch-av says:

I mean, he sustained no injuries while his friends hospitalized the stage-rusher, then he punctuated it with a knowing wink at his unpopularity with a marginalized community. So yeah, fuck Dave Chappelle.

      • roboj-av says:

So because he got lucky in that his injuries were minor, its okay to attack a performer on stage because he’s said bad things before? Because that’s the OP’s point. Hypocritical double standards.

        • chris-finch-av says:

Point me to the part where I said it was okay to attack a performer onstage. Also I wouldn’t rush to align myself rhetorically with the guy who *checks notes* said people would defend Hitler if he was trans.

          • roboj-av says:

Checking my notes here, the part where you said: I mean, he sustained no injuries, So yeah, fuck Dave Chappelle.”So between you lot cheering on Dave Chappelle getting attacked on stage because of his bigoted views, and the guy who said people would defend Hitler if he was trans, you both are taking the worst, and dumbest takes here. Sorry if that blows your simple, black and white mind. But I get it, its the internet and especially the AV Club. Check your maturity at the door in order to say and do things that you would never offline.

          • chris-finch-av says:

If anything, my point is “he’s fine, so I feel better continuing to say I think he sucks.” Otherwise I might say “I wish him a speedy recovery, but also fuck him.” See? Not so black and white. If you’re going to go scolding people about subtlety, you might want to consider that I can think the guy can fuck right off while also not wishing bodily harm on him. There’s also a blistering lack of subtlety in going after me as though I’m co-signing every comment on this thread.

          • roboj-av says:

“If you’re going to go scolding people about subtlety, you might want to consider that I can think the guy can fuck right off while also not wishing bodily harm on him.”Funny how that wasn’t what you actually said and argued. But rather: I mean, he sustained no injuries. So yeah, fuck Dave Chappelle.”Nice and weak attempt of a backtrack though. “subtlety” LOL. What bullshit.

          • chris-finch-av says:

            Yikes. Grow up already.

          • roboj-av says:

The guy who logs on to the internet to make a I mean, he sustained no injuries. So yeah, fuck Dave Chappelle.” comment and justifying it telling me to grow up?!?LOL. You ought to change your name from “Bull Shannon” to Bullshit. Straight up.

          • chris-finch-av says:

You’re making a scene in front of the grown ups.

          • roboj-av says:

LOL.Please keep replying with more ironic nonsense. It hilarious how you do not seem to understand it.

          • chris-finch-av says:

I know you are, but what am I?

          • roboj-av says:

Yes, more comments. Keep replying. Keep entertaining me Mr grown up mature person.

          • chris-finch-av says:

I know you are, but what am I?

          • roboj-av says:

            Burp

          • chris-finch-av says:

I guess this “entertain me” request of yours is one-sided, huh.

          • roboj-av says:

Duh. Why else am asking you to keep replying?

          • chris-finch-av says:

Because your desperation to “win” this thread by being the last to reply is at war with your need to seem above engaging with it?

          • roboj-av says:

“win?!?” LOLWin what exactly? Do I get a prize or a trophy for “winning” an argument on AV Club? That would be nice for all the time i’m wasting. This is why you’re awesome. You’re too fun and funny! Please MORE REPLIES!!!! 🙂

        • iamamarvan-av says:

You really make it a habit of telling people they said something that is demonstrably untrue. What the fuck is wrong with you

          • roboj-av says:

“What the fuck is wrong with you”You should be asking yourself that question since you seem to be getting very upset at rando internet strangers on a comments section of a blog over Dave Chapelle who does not care what you think of him. Maybe it might be time to for you to take a breather from this? Got nothing better to do?

    • williammurderface-av says:

It’s knee-jerk reactionary hysteria. If he’d been murdered would it have been OK? Dimebag Darrell had a guitar with a Confederate flag on it. Was it OK when he was slaughtered on stage for no reason?

    • merk-2-av says:

The most hilarious part of this idiocy is that if Hitler had been trans there would have been no holocaust.

When can the attacker expect his Oscar?

  • bigbydub-av says:

Performing in front of a crowd of people who have ostensibly gone out of their way or have even paid to watch you do your thing should be the safest of all possible places.

    • blpppt-av says:

In an ideal world, yes, but people pay money to go and hassle/ridicule/boo nowadays.

    • davidpuddy2nd-av says:

We had a bunch of kids mowed down in Sandy Hook. I think a comedy show is pretty far down the list of safest of all possible places.

      • bigbydub-av says:

I certainly don’t mean to make light of a national tragedy, and I don’t know what alternate reality you grew up in, but the schoolyard has never been a “safe space” for children.

        • davidpuddy2nd-av says:

That’s my point. If children cannot expect the safest of all places when they go to school then why should comedians when they perform?

    • rev-skarekroe-av says:

      Ask Dimebag Darrell about that.

    • SquidEatinDough-av says:

      lol

  • surreall-av says:

it’s sad that many commentors here can’t see their own blatant hypocrisy. Personally I Hope Dave’s alright and the dude that tried to jump him gets some help.

  • loopychew-av says:

Jesus, there are no scales to be tipped here. Dave Chappelle shouldn’t be stabbed, and he’s a piece of shit for making transphobic jokes afterward. Both stand true; neither cancels out the other.

    • drkschtz-av says:

I’m fine with unleashing violence on the violent. There’s no social contract anyone, the bad guys are going ape wild on society. Why should we be the only ones confined to a set of rules they aren’t even pretending to follow? Fuck em.

      • roygbiv-av says:

Except that he’s not violent, fuckstick.Christ you fucking people.

          • bonobozos-av says:

I wish I had your confidence!

          • sirslud-av says:

There’s no such thing as “good guys” and “bad guys”. A society with open season on “bad guys” would devolve into everyone punching everyone in about 5 minutes flat. Some people might deserve to get punched more than others, but everybody on the planet deserves to get punched according to somebody else. Nobody is pure, and there’s no way to maintain any kind of stability or justness in a society that allows people to wail on other people without slowing the fuck down and talking about it in a room just to make sure we’re on the same page and not making shit up.Of course, maybe you *would* like war, but for now I’m marking you down under “talk is cheap”.

          • drkschtz-av says:

Society is already open season on the vulnerable as we speak. Time to stop bringing an encyclopedia to a gun fight.

          • buh-lurredlines-av says:

            You’re the fascist bud

          • blpppt-av says:

“A society with open season on “bad guys” would devolve into everyone punching everyone in about 5 minutes flat.”Anybody else think this sounds amazing? ;)Like a riot at a Springfield soccer game.“SHUT YOUR HOLE, SKINNER!”

          • drkschtz-av says:

Imagine saying in 2022 there’s “no such thing as bad guys”. All very fine people on both sides. Get fucked.

          • sirslud-av says:

I didn’t say that. Don’t worry, statistically speaking, most people end up outgrowing their early 20s.

          • iamamarvan-av says:

You did when you opened your post by saying: There’s no such thing as “good guys” and “bad guys”.

          • drkschtz-av says:

He literally did. What a bunch of idiots and weaklings.

          • sirslud-av says:

Actually what I said is there’s no perfectly fine people on either side, in so far as human behavior is a gradient good to bad, and in the very next line I said some people are very much worse than others, thus obliterating his accusation that I’m trying to draw some kind of equivalence. His appetite for back of the napkin justice basically guarantees the misapplication of force on the underserving, even if we see 100% coverage on the deserving. That means he shares an important quality with lots of other unlike minded dumbasses, who are so certain of their moral righteousness that involving others in the administration of justice isn’t necessary.

          • spiraleye-av says:

The fact that you conflate this situation with fascism in any way further proves my point. You are an unwell person.

          • drkschtz-av says:

The 4th pillar of Fascism is the identification of social enemies, often made from a society’s most vulnerable groups.

          • spiraleye-av says:

…is what a psychopath would say to justify shooting a stand-up comedian in the head. Seek help, you poor bastard.

          • drkschtz-av says:

We’ll sing the praises of your moderation when we’re living in Gilead.

          • spiraleye-av says:

Sounds about right, since the sickest among us have always justified needless violence in the name of moral absolutism. You’re on-brand, no worries there.

          • iamamarvan-av says:

Significant social progress always comes non-violently!

          • spiraleye-av says:

Knife attacks on stand-up comedians is social progress. Yes. Uh-huh.

          • iamamarvan-av says:

            That’s totally what I said

          • Rev2-av says:

Sounds like you already have one, you pathetic little fashy boychild. Violent misogynists like yourself need to take a short dive into a large woodchipper. You have no place in a civilized world.Though, if I was reduced to being an angry boy in a dress, I’d be bitter, too.

          • billber-av says:

Everything you don’t like is a ‘fascist’. Dave Chappelle is somehow a fascist. A form of authoritarian government…

      • billber-av says:

Here we go again. Telling jokes is not and never will be violence.

  • cyrils-cashmere-sweater-vest-av says:

If my shoulder/arm were that messed up I’d be a little less calm.

  • 000-1-av says:

Frekshow got a beatdown to math his black nail polish ,FUCK HIM !

  • zappafrank-av says:

“Daily Beast says immediately after the attack, Chappelle made a joke of his own, reportedly saying the assailant was a “trans man”—seemingly referring to the controversy he courted earlier this year with the transphobic jokes he made in his Netflix special .”And this is why he deserves to be tackled. Good luck out there, future tacklers!

    • ntbbiggs-av says:

No, he deserves to have someone hijack the PA system and overdub him with fart noises, or a repeat of the Jamie Foxx “I’m your conscience” bit. Once you start saying it’s OK to assault people who say something you don’t like, it doesn’t just stop at it being OK to hit people who YOU disagree with

      • drkschtz-av says:

Stochastic terrorists are perpetrating violence. Time to upgrade how you see “just words” when they come with a powerful platform and a malicious intent.

        • ntbbiggs-av says:

No, it’s just not a good idea to endorse violence as a way of limiting speech. All they have to say is YOUR speech is stochastic terrorism and then hit you, you’re not on the moral or intellectual high ground you think you are.

“Punch people you disagree with” is not a solution with any thought or wisdom behind, just anger and hubris

          • drkschtz-av says:

You’re such an enlightenedcentrist. The way you can see how bOtH sIdEs need to cool it is so perceptive.

          • ntbbiggs-av says:

No, it’s just understanding that violence is no way to handle dissent. You’d have to be an utter simpleton to try and claim it was perceptive given how obvious it is…

Enjoy the view of your colon though, it really makes for fascinating conversations!

          • drkschtz-av says:

I hope clinging to this Boomerism brings you some measure of comfort when you’re rolling down the conveyor belt into a gas chamber.

          • ntbbiggs-av says:

Right… so objecting to the basic play in the authoritarian playbook, the violent suppression of dissenting opinion, is ‘boomerism’… Do you go out of your way to look like a moron, or does it just come naturally? Sorry you’re unable to understand reality and resort to witless buzzwords and condescension when people don’t agree with your nonsense.

        • billber-av says:

Learned a big word from Central Messaging, dintcha? Nice to be clairvoyant and know someone’s intent. You know what’s sick about this? The ONLY ‘trans’ person connected to Chappelle that has died was his friend who killed herself because of…trans people.

    • Rev2-av says:

If you’re saying we should tackle any person who uses the ridiculous term, “trans”, I’m all for it. Fuck those deviants.

    • gojirashei2-av says:

No. He deserves to be ignored, chastised, hopefully made to see the error in his beliefs. He does not deserve to be tackled.

    • billber-av says:

For making a joke. Fuck you and fuck all trans special whiny self-centered narcissist kooks.

    • seven-deuce-av says:

So you support physical violence? Good to know.

  • twoliterturbo-av says:

Nice to see Karma still working.

  • spiraleye-av says:

Anyone justifying a knife attack on a comedian has no moral ground to stand on. None. Some commenters here have lived long enough to see themselves become the villain.

    • houlihan-mulcahy-av says:

Someone laid a finger on Hannah Gadsby, half the bitches here would be calling for the death penalty.

    • thedrdonna-av says:

I would hasten to point out that there’s a pretty big difference between “I can’t bring myself to be overly concerned about this, because he’s a bigot” and “he deserved it because he’s a bigot”, and I haven’t seen more than one or two people here who are espousing the latter.

      • spiraleye-av says:

You forgot “he’s a fascist who deserves death”, of which is also present here from regular commenters. C’mon, man.

        • SquidEatinDough-av says:

          arm trans people

          • spiraleye-av says:

Arm yourself, feel free. But if you die in a hail of gunfire for being a murderer of stand-up comedians, you won’t be a martyr for a cause, you’ll be the proud owner of a fresh Darwin award. Have fun, you crazy kid.

        • thedrdonna-av says:

As I said, there were one or two people who adopted the latter position. But you seem content to paint them all with the same brush.

          • spiraleye-av says:

‘Some’ doesn’t mean ‘all’, by definition. Why are you insisting I didn’t mean what I said?

          • thedrdonna-av says:

Calling attention to a few outliers and painting them as representative of the whole is something of a common tactic. Intentionally leaving some vagueness to hide in when called on it does not obscure your intent.

          • spiraleye-av says:

Right, so show me where I painted anyone as a representative of a whole. I said “anyone who justifies this” and “some”. I see you’re using the common tactic of pushing a debate in a preferable direction to get an easy ‘gotcha’, rather than debating the original comment itself. There is no secret ‘intent’, it’s all right there. Justifying a knife attack on a comedian? Bad. Why is that offensive to you?

          • thedrdonna-av says:

            Mhmm sure thing champ.

          • spiraleye-av says:

            Hey you got it bud.

    • drkschtz-av says:

How are you not embarrassed to be pushing the centrist bullshit that oppressors and those who attack oppressors are equally wrong? 5 year olds can understand this.

      • spiraleye-av says:

What part of “don’t murder comedians” is a centrist view in your deluded mind? Every 5 year old understands this, why don’t you?

      • billber-av says:

Oppressors and the oppressed. Thete’s the dichotomy your type creates. Ypu then give yourself the ‘right’ to simply label someone something then attack them.Fake wannabe revolutionary. Eat a dick.

    • SquidEatinDough-av says:

      cry ab it

  • cropply-crab-av says:

After his comment, better luck next time I guess!

  • bio-wd-av says:

I was juuuuuust about to say I don’t wish harm on Dave Chappelle and I feel sorry for him, and then he proceeded to mock trans people even though that was likely not the cause. Get fucked Dave, I’m sorry to share the same miserable state as you.

    • seven-deuce-av says:

Psst. He was mocking those trans-activists who are actively, and consistently, giving him death threats. So how about you get fucked?

  • noyousetyourusername-av says:

I understand that security didn’t know what this guy was going to do, but holy shit it looks like they tried to kill the guy.

    • charliedesertly-av says:

      Proper respect to them.

    • SquidEatinDough-av says:

Security guys are usually ex/off-duty pigs and they’re usually a bunch of violent pieces of shit.

    • billber-av says:

They massively overreacted. Word is Jamie Fox, Busta Rhymes and others got some licks in too. They had already stopped the threat and took the dude backstage and tuned him up.He’ll get paid over this. Wouldn’t surprise me if that was his intent all along, just like the kook that Tyson gently batted around.

  • raw365-av says:

So, the security teams at Chappelle shows will screen audience members for phones (sometimes) but not for deadly weapons?? K.

  • gloopers-av says:

it’s only gonna get uglier out there and that’s fine by me.

  • SquidEatinDough-av says:

    lmao, now this is comedy

  • williammurderface-av says:

I guess that in all the hubbub about Chappelle’s tranny jokes, everyone forgot about the time a deranged fan murdered the guitar player from Pantera on stage, plus a bunch of other people too. This kind of thing is no joke, regardless of how you feel about whoever is on stage at the time. The knee-jerk hatred over celebrities saying something people don’t like has reached hysterical proportions, and what I’m saying here is that everyone should be relieved that Chappelle wasn’t injured or worse by this nut.

  • bembrob-av says:

Chappelle discussed how he beefed up his security in the wake of the Oscars slap.
Well that was money well spent.

  • send-in-the-drones-av says:

I am thinking of making up some plywood sheets with that glue used on mouse and rat glue traps, but thicker. Lay them out along the edge of the stage and slow anyone down trying to get close. Put them right at the edge so there’s no broad jumping place to start from. I bet there’s a market for them right about now.

  • destron-combatman-av says:

Fuck Chappelle. I hope someone fucking stabs him.

  • cosmicghostrider-av says:

Dave Chappelle joked that the attacker was a “trans man”? Dave Chappelle can go fucking die.
