David Crosby died a few days ago, and while we already heard about a weird post-apocalyptic, alternate-history hippie documentary he never got to make, some of his collaborators recently revealed that he actually had some more traditional projects in the works right before his death. According to Variety, right up until the day he died, he was working on a new album and rehearsing for a new tour that he was planning to announce this month.
That, curiously, goes against what was said in the first press releases confirming his death, which said he had been suffering from a long illness, with musician Steve Postell (who would’ve been involved with this tour) saying that, yes, “he was a weakened guy from a lot of different preexisting conditions,” but “he was not dying. We were rehearsing. We were going out to dinner.” Postell told Variety that he had been talking about the tour with Crosby over the phone on the day he died and that Crosby “was not lying in a bed for two years, out of it.” Instead, he was still working and making music and thinking about what would’ve been his first tour since the pandemic.
Singer Sarah Jarosz told Variety similar things about Crosby’s last days, saying he had asked her to sing on a new song he was working on for a new album. She said that she didn’t get to be with him in the studio, but she went him her vocals the week he died and Crosby’s son, Raymond Crosby, told her that his father did get a chance to hear them before he died. She said that the impression she got from Crosby was that he “just wanted to create until the very end.” She added that she was “just so inspired” after talking with him “because it just seemed like he had endless music within him and worked so hard to just keep making it, obviously up until the very end.”

RIP BING CROSBY
He was likely perpetually ‘working on an album ‘ and ‘planning a tour.’ I’m sixtyty two years into that process and am really close to finally writing enough songs to get started!
You’re gonna need to come up with a hit single some time in the next decade.
Isn’t that how every Behind the Music ends?
The man was 81 and probably lived pretty hard and fast at least for some amount of time in the 60’s and 70’s. It’s reasonable that a confluence of conditions led to his death as his friend pointed out. But it’s also common for sick people to keep planning. My dad spent 3 weeks in hospice with a DNR knowing we were preparing to let him go, and he regularly spent time talking about how he was going to get better and all the projects he had planned.
people in (relatively, for their age) good health die in their 80s all the time just from old age. Its a miracle he made it to 81.
I’m kind of heartened to hear his quality of life was decent enough to the end that he was able to plan and such.
yeah its good, just suprising.
“Probably??!” He was lucky he made it to 40!
I was being kind!
You don’t have to be- he knew!
I got the impression from his documentary that he still needed to tour for financial reasons.
Nobody would front him any drugs if he wasn’t on the verge of something big.
i doubt he was still doing drugs, and i bet he could get them easy if he was.
oh no
“but she went him her vocals the week he died and Crosby’s son, Raymond

died.”Sent. She SENT him her vocals. 34
A lot of the announcements of David’s death were off….never mind his long illness comment, most of the media homages to Croz reflect on his long ago past, a few mentioned his time in CPR with his son Raymond, but he was extremely prolific in recent times.. writing with a handful of great new talents like Michael League, Michelle Willis, Becca Stevens, Sara Jarosz (as was disclosed recently). I mean seriously, sadly, David is no more, but if you gonna wax sympathetic, what’s wrong with a little research to get the obit right?
What, no stories on his extensive knit hat collection?

What did he die of?
