Denver: See Nausicaä tonight as part of our Science Friction film series

Howdy. Senior Writer Jason Heller here. It’s time again for Science Friction, The A.V. Club’s monthly sci-fi film series, which continues tonight with a screening of Hayao Miyazaki’s 1984 anime masterpiece Nausicaä Of The Valley Of The Wind. Things kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Alamo Drafthouse Denver, and as always I’ll be there in person to introduce the film along with my co-host, fellow curator, and good friend Frank Romero, co-founder of Denver Comic Con. If you haven’t seen Nausicaä on the big screen in all its majesty, here’s your chance—that is, if you live in Denver. We haven’t yet worked out a package deal with an airline for all those wretched souls who dwell elsewhere.

I’ll also be doing my usual giveaway, and this time around it’s a doozy: a copy of the new, deluxe, coffee-table book The Art Of Film Magic: 20 Years Of Weta (a $100 value). Every Alamo Victory member in the audience will automatically be entered into a drawing for the book. I’ll announce the winner and fork over the prize right before we roll Nausicaä. You can buy tickets here (and if you’re not already an Alamo Victory member, it’s both painless and free to sign up).

Thanks to everyone who’s come down and supported Science Friction so far. The audiences for our previous three screenings have been fantastic, and we’ll keep making with the sci-fi for as long as you’ll have us.
