Edgar Wright, James Gunn texted to make sure their soundtracks didn’t overlap

Aux Features Film

One takes place in Atlanta and one takes place in space, but they’re both very fun movies. That’s one thing Baby Driver and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 have in common. Another is bitchin’ soundtracks lovingly curated by the directors of both films, and Edgar Wright and James Gunn even consulted each other to make sure their musical tastes didn’t overlap too much.

In an interview with The Washington Post surrounding the release of the film, Wright said that he and Gunn engaged in a little game of Guess Who? over text, trying to figure out what songs the other had picked for his film and whether their respective soundtracks would overlap, creating an awkward situation for them and an awesome one for whoever would be collecting those royalties. Here’s how Wright describes the conversation:

Earlier this year, before Guardians 2 had come out, I suddenly had a panic. I thought, “Oh, what if one of my Baby Driver songs are in Guardians 2?”

So I texted him and we had this funny text conversation where I said: ‘Hey man, I was just panicking that some of my Baby Driver songs are in Guardians 2.’

And he goes, ‘Well, do you have any ELO?’

And I was like, ‘No. Do you have any Queen?’

He said, ‘No. Do you have any Sweet?’

And I said, ‘No. Do you have any Barry White?’

And he goes, ‘No. I was going to use a Barry White song but I didn’t.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m using Barry White.’ Neither of us divulged what the song was… we just went back and forth, and then we figured out that neither of us were using the same songs.

Now the question is just this: What Barry White song did James Gunn cut from the GOTG2 soundtrack?
