The first trailer for Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead remake made a symbolic argument for not only holding your tongue about the rehash, but slicing it right in half. This second, insanely gory red-band trailer ups the ante even further, vomiting a torrent of blood right in the squirming face of those still trying to resist it. The endorsements of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell aside, of course, it'll still probably do little to convince those who believe remakes are inherently unnecessary, that this new Evil Dead lacks the original's zany comedy (an element that wasn't actually introduced until Evil Dead II, but whatever), that simply adding copious amounts of gore is no substitute for originality, that faithfully recreating scenes like the infamous "tree rape" just represents how pointless this new version is, that what the fuck is that—dubstep?, etc. But credit it for one thing: It certainly does everything it can to make this hard to ignore.
