HBO is extending our stay at The White Lotus, with a second season underway that’ll feature a brand new cast and a different location. We’re eagerly hoping that some familiar faces will pop up in the upcoming season, and, thankfully, Jake Lacy really wants to return to Mike White’s hit series, too.

Lacy told The A.V. Club that he’s “100 percent” up for playing antagonistic Shane again. “I just loved working with Mike. I just think his writing and directing and his brain are like—I want to spend the most time in that world, whether it’s like season two of White Lotus or some other thing, I would be back there.”

As for what he envisions for Shane, he’s already thinking about what the character and his mom Kitty (Molly Shannon) could be up to. “I was texting with Molly last night before the finale because she hadn’t read ahead; she was like, ‘I just want to see it,’” he said. “And I was like, ‘Man, I hope that we get to come back, like, just in the back of a shot.’ Seeing us berating someone at the Sky Lounge or getting into it with the valet. Just something to be like, ‘Oh, God, those people are still out there. They’re still just doing their fucking thing. Like Jesus, enough is enough.’ Or I hope that I hope that they follow [Kitty]. I hope she has a major thing in the second season. I think that would be amazing.”

As much as we’d love to watch more of Shane being an absolute terror to other resort workers, the concept of Kitty getting to be the one to be an asshole at the new White Lotus location sounds like exactly what we need. We didn’t get to see enough of Molly Shannon’s brilliance so sign us up, please.

I’m guessing with Shane having just stabbed a guy to death, they aren’t going directly to “fuck in Tahiti”? If the creators really fell in love with this couple of characters, they could give us Season 2: Tahiti. But I suspect a season 2 will go with a more traditional full anthology. No shared characters.

I could go for new characters same cast.

I wasn’t even thinking about the American Horror Story type of anthology using the same actors as different characters. I doubt it, that is sort of gimmicky for prestige drama. It works fine for camp like AHS though.

        • tinyepics-av says:

Yeah I doubt it to too. But could be interesting in Mike Whites hands. All the actors seemed to love working with him. Plus it’s the only way we get Murray Bartlett back.

        “Mike White’s Repertory Players present”

When Mike White was talking about the potential for a second season – before it was officially greenlit – he mentioned the possibilities of returning characters and even made a Marvel comparison in terms of a linked universe.I bet we’ll see some recurring characters, but I doubt it will be too egregious.

I can see that being more subtle. The introduction of unseen characters like Shane’s Mums travel agent and the hotel owners turning up in season 2.

      • desertbruinz-av says:

It would probably be connected by like the travel agent that Shane was always calling to fix things.

No thanks. I’ve lived among and seen enough of this human form of American Capitalism Milquetoast long enough. At least the family in “Succession” offers levels of layered and entitled depravity.

Rewatching Succession as my wife is giving it another chance after bailing on it during the first season. Her problem with the show: There’s only so much you can take of rich people being shitty to each other. However she loved White Lotus. So maybe it’s an issue with when they get to the Roy family “Master of the Universe” level where she becomes dramatically disinterested.

      • rosezeesky-av says:

I completely understand her standpoint. I works in politics and I’m used to watching the powerful consume the uninformed plebs. When they start eating each other in plain view, the cannibalism is a sheer delight for those who can’t pull back the curtain.
White Lotus is my reality, Succession is my fantasy.

      • rosezeesky-av says:

I can understand her stand point. I work in a world where the powerful openly eat the plebs, but it’s rare when most of us get to see them eating each other in real time and in public.

It must be fun to play the skeezy dirtbag frat boy a$$hole. There is a long history of such characters in film and tv.

  • robert-moses-supposes-erroneously-av says:

I actually love the idea of every luxury resort (at least within the White Lotus chain) having the Patton son and mom on some sort of “approach with extreme caution!” blacklist – some groupchat where all the Armonds of the world warn eachother.

  • Blanksheet-av says:

Get Michelle Pfeiffer to be the hotel manager.

  • moswald74-av says:

Good lord NO. One season of that character was enough for me.

  • south-of-heaven-av says:

    I’d prefer season 2 of High Fidelity : (
