Get Involved, Internet: Support a feature-length documentary about Of Montreal

Aux Features Music

Psych-pop band Of Montreal has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help finance the completion of Song Dynasties, a documentary about the group. The $75,000 campaign aims to finance a crew to shoot one last round of footage and interviews so that the documentary can meet its projected completion date of mid-March.

Filmmaker Jason Miller has been working on Song Dynasties since 2007, when he went to film one of Of Montreal’s notoriously raucous live shows and just kept shooting. The hundreds of hours of footage the filmmakers accrued include early camcorder tapes from the band’s first shows in Athens, Georgia, large amounts of backstage, studio, and tour-bus filming, and scenes from the now-infamous show when bandleader Kevin Barnes took the stage on a horse.

There are some pretty good reasons to donate to the fundraising campaign besides the documentary. Rewards for donating include downloads of both the film and the band’s music, an exclusive, limited-edition album featuring previously unreleased material titled Young Froth/Taypiss, and a 10-foot-long dress Barnes wore onstage at Coachella (pictured above).
