Guillermo Del Toro's "anime/manga cabin" is as breathtakingly nerdy as it sounds

Some people use art as an escape, but others immerse themselves in it, wanting to live and breath it every hour of the day. It probably doesn’t surprise you to learn that The Shape Of Water director Guillermo del Toro is one of the latter, but that he owns an honest-to-god “manga/anime cabin” just might.

The Oscar-winning director’s taste in interior decoration has long been a subject of fascination. His homes are designed with the same sense of joy that his films are. But he recently took to Twitter to show off another corner of his home, flaunting a collection of comics, figurines, collectibles, statues, prints, sketches, and pop culture detritus that looks to engulf the entire domicile. As one user on Twitter put it, “I do not envy the person who has to dust @RealGDT house.”

In the first tweet alone, we see a life-size Faun (the creature from del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth), a slew of Akira merch, a terrifying Thriller-era Michael Jackson doll, and a tiny green spaceship that looks like it’s actually floating.

And that’s just the beginning. del Toro’s love for Japanese culture and literature dominates the second tweet (he even adds “Japan” to the “anime/manga” cabin description in the accompanying caption).

And it goes on and on. The Simpsons, Futurama, and Adventure Time are all well-represented, as is Hayao Miyazaki (who gets his own shelf) and del Toro’s Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award for Puss In Boots, which must have mixed feelings about not being placed next to the Oscars.

That Shape Of Water dildo must be on display elsewhere?

“Some (not all) bookshelves,” he teases. Jealous? Well, know that this, too, could be yours. All you need to do is direct some of this generation’s most visually striking, zeitgeist-defining films.

One question remains, however: Where will he put his own action figure when it drops next month?
