With A+ names like Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, and Ray Romano attached, it’s no wonder that HBO has given Jagger and Scorsese’s as-yet-untitled rock ’n’ roll drama a formal series order. Given HBO’s history of committing to its projects, that means we’re guaranteed at least one season of some kid named James Jagger doing his best Mick Jagger impression as the singer of a punk band in ’70s New York.
Bobby Cannavale signed on last year to star as a record executive trying to find the new sound that all the kids want to bop to, while also snorting mountains of fake cocaine. From there, other famous names interested in doing fake cocaine for Martin Scorsese followed, including Olivia Wilde as Cannavale’s wife, P.J. Byrne—a.k.a. Rugrat from The Wolf Of Wall Street—as Cannavale’s business partner, Andrew Dice Clay as a radio DJ, and Juno Temple in an undefined role which, if we had to guess, probably involves some nudity.
The project has been in the works for quite some time (we first reported on it back in 2010). Deadline says the delay was due to Boardwalk Empire, which makes sense because that series’ creator, Terence Winter, is also attached as showrunner for the new project. But now Boardwalk Empire is over and production on this show can begin, making this a shrewd time to invest in powdered milk.
