Jamie Foxx was honored at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema and Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements on Monday night, marking his first public appearance since he was hospitalized for an undisclosed health issue in April. Foxx accepted the Vanguard Award for his performance in The Burial, and while he did not elaborate further on the specifics of his ailment, he did suggest in his speech that the scare was a near-fatal one.

“I’ve been through something. I’ve been through some things. You know it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago, I couldn’t actually walk,” he said after striding onstage (per Deadline). The They Cloned Tyrone star then joked, “And I’m not a clone, I’m not a clone. I know a lot of people saying that I was cloned out there.”

Foxx continued his speech, “It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now, you know, it’s different. … I wouldn’t wish what I went though on my worst enemy. Because it’s tough… when it’s almost over, when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel, I didn’t see the light. It was hot in that tunnel too, I don’t know where I was going. ‘Shit, am I going to the right place?’”

Keeping the audience laughing, the actor alluded to a stint with physical therapy and shouted out his daughter and sister for protecting his privacy during his recovery. His daughter Corinne had shared some brief updates on her father’s condition to social media in the wake of his illness; in July, Foxx took to Instagram himself, explaining to fans, “I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”

On Monday, Foxx went on to say (via The Hollywood Reporter), “I have a new respect for life, I have a new respect for my art. I watched so many movies and listened to so many songs trying to have the time go by. Don’t give up on your art, man, don’t give up on your art. When you realize that it could be over like that… I got to tell you don’t give up on your art and don’t let them take the art from you either.”

Since he won’t say what his health issue was I’m going to assume he tried to eat his own ass and suffered a severe spinal cord injury during the attempt. He saw the tunnel, indeed.

he delivers some career-best work in the burial, as well. he’s actually had a great year, too bad every movie is on streaming and instantly forgotten.

???  I’m glad he’s recovered, but still so confused about all of the secrecy surrounding his situation.  Did he OD?  Did he have a stoke?

    • happywinks-av says:

Yeah, I’d like to know as well.

Obviously his call to make, but given he’s cracking jokes about it in public it’s weird that he’d be so secretive about what happened. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about if it was a natural occurrence, which leads me to believe it may be the result of some bad decisions.

I agree, it is absolutely his call to make..but I also agree with your take that it’s the result of something he did, and not something that occurred as a fluke.

Well I didn’t think he was a clone before, but now?

    • bcfred2-av says:

Plus that’s exactly what a clone would say, if it was even aware it was a clone. (takes another bong rip)

Some serious method acting/research to play Spawn.

I appreciate anyone’s need for privacy – but at this point he either needs to say what the medical emergency was or just shut the fuck up about it. You can’t just walk around saying “this thing happened to me” and then when people say “what thing” say “I don’t want to discuss it, please honor my need for privacy.”

That’s how I feel about the accusations against Joss Whedon. We have enough specifics—his philandering, how he reacted to Charisma Carpenter’s pregnancy, the crack about Gal Gadot’s English speaking ability, etc.—to know that he’s a grade-A asshole, but people keep alluding to more egregious behavior while remaining frustratingly vague.

Well I kind of get that – no one wants to get sued and no news outfit wants to print anything that could be libelous. But Jamie Foxx is playing both sides “I don’t want to talk about the thing I’m going to talk about – so don’t ask me about it. Okay, so the thing that happened that I don’t want to give any details on – whoa! That thing I won’t talk about sure was something. I almost died! I did die. Yeah, that’s the ticket.”

Every time I use Youtube I have to see an ad of him promoting gambling. Fuck him.

Ok, but this is literally what all of my clones are always saying.
