Dwayne Johnson doesn’t want to return to the Fast And The Furious family anytime soon, but there’s another buff guy who does. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Momoa is in final negotiations to join the franchise for the 10th movie.

Details for Fast & Furious 10 are still under wraps, so there’s no confirmation yet on who this new character is. But what we do know about Fast & Furious 10 is that Justin Lin will be back in the director’s chair. Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Nathalie Emmanuel, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, and Ludacris are also set to return.

Fans of the Fast franchise had also been hoping that Johnson would put his issues with Diesel aside and return as Hobbs—whose final movie in the franchise was 2019 spin-off Hobbs And Shaw— after Diesel posted on Instagram asking the wrestler-turned-actor to plays Hobbs again.

“My little brother Dwayne… the time has come. The world awaits the finale of Fast 10. As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes… but the time has come. Legacy awaits,” wrote Diesel.

But despite the intense message for Johnson, there’s been no luck in getting Hobbs back. During an interview with CNN last month, Johnson said he talked to Diesel privately and cordially told him there was no chance of him returning to the franchise. He also said he spoke to his partners at Universal about his wishes to not reprise the character. He added that by trying to convince him to come back with an Instagram post, Diesel was being manipulative.

“My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible Fast & Furious franchise with gratitude and grace. It’s unfortunate that this public dialogue has muddied the waters,” said Johnson.

Fast & Furious 10 (working title) is set to arrive on May 19, 2023.

one of the best things about his franchise is that it used to mint new stars, as opposed to just absorbing existing ones.

    • akabrownbear-av says:

      Gal Gadot sure. Who else?

      • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

i mean, vin diesel was not a movie star before the first fast and furious movie, for one, and paul walker was coming off of third stringer roles in teen comedies.but also they used to make interesting casting choices that weren’t just ‘here’s a pre-existing movie star’ – ludacris’ first acting role was 2 fast, devon aoki, tyrese wasn’t in too many movies, bow wow, you mentioned gal, even the rock wasn’t quite THE ROCK until after fast 5…but since 6 it’s just been here’s statham, here’s charlize, here’s kurt russell, etc…

  • cscurrie-av says:

Nice. So I wonder is he going to play a hero or a villain? Or both? Already John Cena did a switch from a heel to a face in one movie. It took Jason Statham a couple of films.

    • dirtside-av says:

I’m assuming he’ll oscillate between hero and villain at a rate of 24 Hz.

    • akabrownbear-av says:

I just assume he’s going to play Aquaman and they’re going to make the Fast crew actual superheroes this time.

      • haodraws-av says:

They’re already superheroes! After F&F 11, they should make a Logan-style Fast and Furious movie with Diesel. Don’t tie it in with any cinematic universe what-so-ever. Just do a rough, beautiful, emotional tale about an older Toretto. Have Rob Cohen direct. Give him full control. Watch the box office explode.

Again, if it’s not eventually titled Fast10Furious, then what are we even doing?

  • coolmanguy-av says:

He should just replace the Rock’s character with nobody saying anything to see how mad the Rock gets

    • ipzilla-av says:

Exactly: “Yeah, I grew my hair. So what? Let’s drive!”

    • noisetanknick-av says:

I like this, but I don’t want it to stop at “replaced without acknowledgement.” I want them to have Dom routinely complimenting him, and multiple characters establishing again and again how they are now – and have always been – Perfect Friends.

  • rigbyriordan-av says:

Yeah, he or Bautista were bound to be next. … maybe both now that we know they’re buddies.

  • captain-splendid-av says:

If my calculations are correct, this means that Momoa is not a candy ass.

  • nogelego-av says:

“there’s no confirmation yet on who this new character is”Let me spoil it for you. He’s going to be a bad guy and then he’ll have a fistfight with Vin Diesel and shit will get broken. Then they’ll make the movie. In the movie he’ll start out as a bad guy and he’ll have a fistfight with Vin Diesel and then later he’ll be a good guy so he can be a good guy in the sequel.

  • mikolesquiz-av says:

Wow, I had no idea he was so hard up for cash. Couldn’t he just sell autographs at conventions or something?

  • dr-frahnkunsteen-av says:

Mamoa as Duncan Idaho and the charisma he brought to that role kinda proved to me that he deserves to be headlining big action movies, so I’m actually a little disappointed to see him as just the next muscleman to join this franchise. Yes, I know he’s Aquaman too, but can we please get this guy some original IP?

  • garland137-av says:

Let me guess, he’s one of the Rock’s brothers or cousins or something?  A member of the Hobbs family that never left the criminal life behind?
