Jason Segel created and stars in AMC’s Dispatches From Elsewhere, an offbeat-looking spy series that appears to exist somewhere between David Fincher’s The Game and Bill Murray’s The Man Who Knew Too Little.

Sally Field and Andre “3000" Benjamin join Segel in the series, playing everyday folks who become amateur “secret agents” as part of a meta-game that may or not be rooted in something more magical and sinister. The great Richard E. Grant also appears as an enigmatic presence at the center of the “game.”

Dispatches From Elsewhere was announced as an anthology series last year, and it was also teased that the series would encompass some kind of interactive component for viewers. Mayhap it involves eating a picture of Jason Segel? We hear that’s a thing now.

Read a full synopsis below:

The ten-hour series is centered around four ordinary people who feel there’s something missing in their lives, but they can’t quite put their finger on what it is. This diverse foursome is brought together by chance – or perhaps it’s by design – when they stumble onto a puzzle hiding just behind the veil of everyday life. As they begin to accept the mysterious ‘Dispatches from Elsewhere’ challenges, they come to find that the mystery winds deeper than they imagined, and their eyes are opened to a world of possibility and magic.

No release date yet, but AMC promises a 2020 debut.

Ya know, that was actually an interesting trailer. Am I gonna check the show out? No clue, depends on if I remember that the show exists. That’s the problem with really early tease trailers, if you don’t follow up, you tend to forget about the tv show/movie entirely. This is what happens when the powers that be give me access to infinite on-demand movies and tv shows. Why should I care what is premiering in 6 months when there’s decades worth of programs I haven’t seen yet?

The Jejune Institute? This sounds like a show based off of the ARG. Explains the ‘Elsewhere’ mention as while since the fictional Elsewhere Public Works was an in-game entity.

I saw a trailer for this on TV and I thought it was a really bad commercial for some sort of contest where you win an Apple product.

I heard there were all kinds of Andre 3000 with flute and Jason Segel sightings in Philadelphia, hopefully they use the city well (instead of The Irishman where you can tell exactly where in NYC was standing in for Philly at all times).

This is true. We went to brunch in Rittenhouse Square one Saturday morning and Segel was seated directly behind me. This was kind of hilarious because earlier that morning I was watching a movie with him in it and had thought “I wonder what he’s up to these days?”I got my answer.

And then Sapphire and Steel show up.

    …Richard E. Grant…
    All you needed was that.

Dispatches From Elsewhere feels like Pool Party usurped Dudley & Son!
Looks like this’ll make a great double-header with season 3 of Lodge 49! Oh wait, AMC stabbed it in the back like a cad. It could’ve had them both! What’s the point of getting invested in this when AMC couldn’t even bother promoting the quirky diverse esoteric mystery show it already had?

Well, damn, this looks right up my alley.

But wait, isn’t there some sort of “reason why Jason Segel has a hard time finding work”. Those adverts at the bottom of some articles certainly suggest so also with reasons why Emma Watson and Anna Kendrick will not do nude scenes (because they don’t have to?) or how the girl from Sucker Punch looks now, (yeah Emily Browning, the girl currently in American Gods). .

    • Varou-av says:

Wait, I’m not following what you mean. Can you elaborate on your points? Like, is Jason Segel hard to work with or something like that? No snark, I honestly want to know more and I guess I could google it…anywho..yeah.
