Jay Duplass and Timothy Omundson to play god(s) in the new Percy Jackson show
Duplass and Omundson will play the Greek gods Hades and Hephaestus, respectively, in the Disney Plus series

Some fresh news from Olympus today, as Variety reports that two more actors have signed on for Disney+’s upcoming TV adaptation of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson books. Jay Duplass is taking on the role of Head Dead Guy Hades, and Timothy Omundson is making the move from TV royalty to literal TV deity as Hephaestus, god of blacksmiths.
Duplass works regularly on both sides of the camera; he currently appears on HBO’s Industry, and has had notable roles in recent years on Search Party, The Chair, and more. (In addition to all the films and TV he continues to make alongside his brother Mark.) As Hades, he’ll play a key role in Riordan’s story of the Greek gods in the modern world; the elder brother of Zeus, Hades is suspected, in Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief, of being the one who pilfered the titular bolt.
Omundson has a far more cheerful role, meanwhile, with Hephaestus typically portrayed as one of the least dick-ish members of Riordan’s pantheon. A veteran TV actor best known for his long-time role on USA’s Psych, Omundson was forced to step away from acting after suffering a stroke in 2017. He’s since returned to the business, appearing in the Psych sequel movies, New Amsterdam, and the little running video of Galavant clips that cycles endlessly in our minds.
Duplass and Omundson join a stacked cast of immortal folks, including Walker Scobell as Percy himself, a regular kid who finds out he’s the son of Poseidon. Other additions to the cast include Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Timm Sharp, Dior Goodjohn, Olivea Morton, Charlie Bushnell, Adam Copeland, Suzanne Cryer, Jessica Parker Kennedy, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. That’s a whole lotta gods.

As much as I loved him in Psych, my favorite performance of his was far and away Galavant. That show was so fucking dumb (in the best way), and by season two he was by far the best actor/character on that show.
First thing I ever noticed him in was Supernatural (playing the very serious and grim Cain), so whe he showed up in Galavant as the silly and pompous Richard it immediately translated into “this guy is fucking talented.” We watched through Psych starting a couple years ago, and he was great in that too of course.
Anytime I have the opportunity I face plant onto the ground whilst yelling, “Sooo Booored!!!” I fucking love Galavant.

Hephaestus, I can totally see. Hades…I’ve never seen anything from Duplass that has the energy I got from that character in the books (the closest is probably the Creep movies, and even then that’s a very different kind of intimidating) but I’m willing to be proven wrong. Dream casting for him would probably be Willem Dafoe, although for a show like this that would probably be a long shot.

Huzzah for more Omundson! My baby has loved Psych being on in the background, so he’s seen the whole show and all the movies before turning 1… I need to let him listen to Galavant. But Omundson is just fucking gold…
Once again I read about an actor whose first name is Timothy and whose last name starts with “O”, think I’m reading about Timothy Olyphant, and then become sad when I realise I am not.
