Jennifer Lawrence to play famous murderer for Call Me By Your Name director

According to Variety, Jennifer Lawrence has signed on to star in Burial Rites, a new film from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino. The movie is based on Hannah Kent’s 2013 novel of the same name, which Variety says is about Agnes Magnusdottir, “the last woman to be publicly executed in Iceland in 1830.” Lawrence will play Magnusdottir, who was sentenced to death for killing two men and burning their house down, and while that would probably be a thrilling premise for a movie, the story is actually about her final days as she tries “reluctantly forging emotional and romantic bonds” while waiting for the court to confirm her sentence.

That makes it sound like it’ll essentially be about a woman trying to go about her normal life while waiting to die, which sounds pretty grim, but not every movie about Jennifer Lawrence killing people can be a cool-looking action thriller.
