As announced in a press release today, Jimmy Kimmel and Justin Theroux are set to produce an untitled event for ABC that will pay tribute to classic sitcoms. The special will specifically be a salute to shows from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, and it will involve “the biggest names in comedy” getting together to put on live performances of old sitcom scripts. No specific details about who will appear in the special or what scripts will be performed have been announced, but Kimmel noted in a statement that he has a lot of fondness for “producers like Norman Lear, Jim Burrows, James L. Brooks, and Garry Marshall,” so that might give you some indication of the kind of shows he and Theroux are looking at.
