Aux News Coming Distractions

Here is the first clip from jOBS, the biopic exploring how late Apple founder Steve Jobs became a true innovator in the field of sort-of-looking like Ashton Kutcher. As you can see, Ashton Kutcher does an admirable, probably Oscar-winning jOB of looking a lot like Ashton Kutcher. He also says some things about computers in the forceful half-shout that characterizes good acting, the combination of words like “operating system” and Ashton Kutcher’s face confirming that, indeed, this is a movie about Steve Jobs.

Unfortunately, not everyone is sold yet—particularly Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, whose portrayal by Josh Gad in the above scene illustrates just how forward-thinking Wozniak’s partner was when it came to sort of looking like someone famous. Wozniak has responded to the clip with a series of comments to Gizmodo, calling it “totally wrong” and saying he's “embarrassed” by it.

While graciously ignoring the fact that Gad makes him look like a Hobbit-y Jorge Garcia, Wozniak criticizes the accuracy of the character dynamic (“We never had such interaction and roles… Our relationship was so different than what was portrayed”), the timeline of who was inspired by what (“Personalities and where the ideas of computers affecting society did not come from Jobs. They inspired me and were widely spoken at the Homebrew Computer Club”), and the overall slant the movie is headed in, if this clip is any indication (“It's ok to make up a dramatic scene, but is much better if it sort of happened and had the meaning portrayed”). However, obviously Wozniak is not taking into account the film’s most important aspect: that Ashton Kutcher sort of looks like  Steve Jobs, therefore everything else is secondary.
