John Krasinski’s upcoming slate of projects just got a whole lot more kid friendly. When Krasinski stopped by CinemaCon today to talk all things A Quiet Place: Day One (which reportedly wrapped filming around two weeks ago), the actor and director also teased his next film, a Pixar-esque project entitled IF.

Per Krasinski, IF tells a story about imaginary friends using a mix of live-action and CGI straight out of the Who Killed Roger Rabbit? playbook. The film is the brainchild of Krasinski and its star, Ryan Reynolds. In a making-of featurette that played exclusively for CinemaCon audiences, Reynolds said that he and Krasinski have been formulating the idea for this film for years, comparing it to Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Emily Blunt, Vince Vaughn, Lou Gossett Jr., Christopher Meloni, Awkwafina, and Cailey Fleming round out the cast. IF has yet to receive an official release date.

As far as A Quiet Place: Day One goes, Krasinski offered two major tidbits of information: the film takes place in New York City, and is currently set to premiere on March 8, 2024. Helmed by Pig director Michael Sarnoski (who is also set to direct 2025's planned A Quiet Place: Part III), the film reunites core cast-members Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmons, and Noah Jupe; Djimon Hounsou also reprises his A Quiet Place: Part II role as “Man On The Island.” Newcomers Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff’s roles are still under wraps. Although plot details still remain scant, it seems pretty likely the prequel will involve a healthy amount of tense, frightening silence and quivering upper lips. Just hazarding a wild and crazy guess!

“the film reunites core cast-members Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmons, and Noah Jupe”None of these people are in A Quiet Place: Day One.Whete are you getting this info? Source?

Maybe they’re referring to Part III, but the way it’s written does sure make it sound like they’re saying those three are in Day One. Confusing.

Thank you! I was trying to work out how on earth they could logistically be in that movie…

    Don’t tease. It’s not nice.

Krasinski works with the CIA, his opinion and teasing mean nothing. You may ignore him and his wife who defends him under an alt on Twitter

I kind of wish they would stop making more sequels and spinoffs. I liked the original the first time I saw it at the theater, but repeat viewings and the second movie really seem to expose the inconsistencies regarding how easy it is to hide from or escape from the monsters.

You literally cannot think about the world of A Quiet Place for more than three seconds if you want to be able to enjoy those movies.Start with the fact that these creatures virtually have to be aliens, since they appear all at once, but they have no discernable technology, so they what… teleported here? Hitched a ride on the space Uber? Then you have to accept that the United States military (to say nothing of 100 million gun owners) aren’t able to put enough firepower into killing these things. I don’t care how tough their hides are, we’ve got shoulder-mounted anti-tank missiles. And somehow no one thinks of using camouflage to hide from these things? I’m sorry, but every radio in the fucking city would be on, 24/7, to confuse these things.A Quiet Place is kind of dumb.

They don’t have to be aliens. They could be creatures from another dimension as in ”Stranger Things”. And probably doing a “Day One” movie is so we get the origin. Which I don’t care about, but whatever.

        • jpfilmmaker-av says:

If the humans weren’t so dumb, I wouldn’t have a reason to care about where the monsters came from.

      • browza-av says:

Surely this prequel will explain and justify all of those things. Prepare to eat crow, bat!

“we’ve got shoulder-mounted anti-tank missiles.”Tell me more about this, because my first thought on hearing it is wouldn’t the recoil kill you?

      • jomonta2-av says:

Agreed on all counts. But it was still a fun experience at the theater before you had time to think about it too closely. I mean John Krasinski didn’t even have to die at the end. He could have made noise to distract the monster a ton of different ways that didn’t involve him just standing in the open yelling. But was I sad when he sacrificed himself? You bet I was.

        • jpfilmmaker-av says:

I’ll agree that the first one worked just well enough that I didn’t think too much about it while watching it. It was kind of funny though, because by the time I was walking to the car I was like, “Wait a minute…”

One part of A Quiet Place could make a bit of sense if the creatures aren’t aliens, but from here – maybe they showed up after a centuries long sleep, like cicadas (hey, because of global warming!). I do think it was well-directed and there were some cool scary bits. But yeah, the rest of it, while tense and watchable, makes not a lick of sense. My first thought, about 20 minutes into the movie, was – “so, play a radio or some other noisemaker really loud, and hide in the bushes with a sniper rifle…!” If they’d done that, though – a pretty short movie and no sequel. Sequels.

I find most of your horror movies don’t stand up to close logical scrutiny.

  • coatituesday-av says:

Per Krasinski, IF tells a story about imaginary friends I hope one of them is played by Malcolm McDowell!(Get it?)

“Who Killed Roger Rabbit”Holy shit, those direct to VHS/DVD 90s/00s Disney sequels got dark, eh? No wonder they stuffed them in the Disney Vault!
