Legend has it that long ago, a wise magic man visited some old, white Hollywood executive in his dreams and whispered, “If you make a successful film, you must build a franchise or your entire life’s work is a failure and your wife will leave you behind.” With this in mind comes the sequel to A Quiet Place, John Krasinski’s hit horror sci-fi flick about a family (headed by Krasinski and his real-life spouse, Emily Blunt) struggling to survive in a world where monsters with heightened hearing hunt them based on sound. It is a world not unlike your mother’s house, where, despite her inability to comprehend your impassioned plea to disable motion-smoothing on the TV, she can somehow hear the specific sound it makes when you don’t rinse off your plate.
A Quiet Place was a rather effective bit of sci-fi horror that left the door open for a sequel, though Krasinski seemed hesitant to commit to one upon its release. Now, however, he is taking us back to the world of these hyper-eared monsters in 2020, and according to an update from The Hollywood Reporter, Blunt and co-stars Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe (who played their kids) are in talks to return, as well.
Seemingly titled Part II based on his hashtag, the sequel to A Quiet Place will arrive, per Krasinski’s tweet, on May 15, 2020. The sequel will presumably pick up sometime around where the first film left off, as Blunt’s matriarch prepares to go full Edge Of Tomorrow and defend her homestead from a massive swarm of monsters whilst wielding a very big gun. Whatever your feelings on the necessity of a sequel to A Quiet Place, I think we can all agree that a gun-toting Blunt blasting the shit out of Cloverfield-esque monsters sounds thrilling.

I’m just curious how nobody involved in this got sued by Tim Lebbon, author of The Silence, the book this was so blatantly ripped off from.

Maybe it’s because A Quiet Place was in development in 2013, two years before Lebbon’s book came out.
I’m not certain, but it’s possible that’s the reason.
They supposedly had their “story idea” in 2013, per wikipedia, but they didn’t actually write the script until 2016.
