You might want to check in on your horror fan friends today. Thank goodness the first trailer for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is (allegedly) dropping sometime this week, because it’s going to be a lot longer until we see anything new from Jordan Peele, one of the other great genre directors working today.

Today, Peele posted an image on social media containing only the date October 23, 2026. While one Twitter/X user pointed out that we don’t technically know this means a new movie is coming, Peele’s studio, Monkeypaw Productions, responded to the tweet, so that feels like a pretty sure sign.

Even if the studio hadn’t responded, this date announcement is pretty clearly related to Peele’s mysterious fourth film, which was announced in March 2023—two months before the start of the WGA strike—and originally slated for a Christmas 2024 release. But as disappointing as it is not to have a new Peele movie to look forward to this year, that slot in Universal’s schedule is now taken up by none other than Nosferatu, so you win some you lose some. (Internationally, that is. The Eggers film is being distributed by Focus Features in the U.S.)

We don’t know anything else about the Peele film other than the fact that it’s now over two years away. Peele has kept a tight lip about past projects that have ranged from classic horror in Get Out to larger world-building in Us and extraterrestrial sci-fi in Nope, so this really could be anything. He did briefly discuss the film on a January episode of the Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend podcast (via Variety), saying, “I do feel like my next project is clear to me, and I’m psyched that I have another film that, you know, could be my favorite movie if I make it right.” Luckily for him (and for us), he now has even more time to ensure that he does. We’re guessing it will be worth the wait.
