Dolly Parton’s Halos & Horns. Joan Baez’s Diamonds & Rust. And now, Carrie Underwood leans into country Barbie bona fides with Denim & Rhinestones. The multi-platinum American Idol hitmaker’s ninth studio album comes fresh off the heels of a Las Vegas residency and an appearance on Netflix’s Cobra Kai (!), and it signals a return to her sweet spot: mid-tempo, country-inflected ballads with soaring choruses designed to showcase her laser beam of a voice. The angelic melody in lead single “Ghost Story” resembles those in Underwood’s best songwriting, while the title track heralds a return “back to home sweet home” and, fittingly, name-checks Parton. Finest. Have Thelma Plum’s new track. Kamilaroi/Gamilaraaay/Gomeroi woman from the teeny, tiny NSW town of Delungra, now residing in the small country town of 2.5 million people, Brisbane, which is where the vid’s shot.

I have no idea if Horsegirl is any good, but is highlighting competent bass playing and a drummer using a ride cymbal REALLY the best selling point?

Why would anyone claim I need to hear a new Weezer album?

  • ghostofghostdad-av says:

Weezer is what you have to suffer through to see the band you actually came for.

Horsegirl is soooooooooo good. They’ve got about half an hour’s worth of singles up on streaming over the past few years, and I compiled them into a playlist called “The Horsegirl Album” not knowing if an actual album was coming, so this is super news.

I’m digging Angel Olsen since her last album and I can’t wait for this new one. She took awhile to grow on me but I’m loving her evolution. Can’t wait to also see her in concert with Sharon Van Etten in August.
