Get ready for HBO's The Idol, another Walking Dead spin-off, Idris Elba's new drama, and other biggies

Think of June as a breather when it comes to TV viewing. May was packed with the final episodes of Succession, Barry, Ted Lasso, Yellowjackets, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, among others. Now, with all of those series wrapped up, June figures to be a relatively calmer (but still mighty) month. Look no further than the return of critically acclaimed dramedy The Bear or the arrival of Marvel’s long-anticipated Nick Fury-focused series Secret Invasion, which kickstarts MCU’s Phase Five on Disney+, for proof.
Plus, there’s more: The Weeknd’s contentious The Idol takes over Succession’s Sunday-night spot; Kaley Cuoco finds her way into another mystery dramedy; and The Walking Dead franchise expands once again. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ adds to its slate with new dramas led by Tom Holland and Idris Elba. To help you sort through all of it, we present The A.V. Club’s guide to what to watch come June.

Fear The Walking Dead returned a few weeks ago. Episode 3 aired 5/28.
It’s already back. The spark isn’t there.
…not even worth a mention, though? I feel like stuff like this used to be The AVC’s wheelhouse.
Too many people were interested in it, so it wasn’t considered cool by AV Club anymore.
TNT or TBS is finally airing the UK time-travel* series “The Lazarus Project” starting this coming Sunday at 9PM EST (though they have already run the first episode a couple of times as a preview of sorts after basketball).*Looks to be “Se7en Days” type time travel, not “Doctor Who” (though it does star Anjli Mohindra from the Whoniverse).
Meanwhile, TBS/TNT still has Season 4 of Miracle Workers which is finished, in the can and had a January 2023 air date and is still AWOL.
Seriously!

.
Is it just me or is Kaley Cuoco even cuter sporting her natural hair color?
she gets hotter every day.
I wasn’t swayed to re up on Disney+ for the Mandalorian, but they may have hooked me with Secret Invasion. Olivia Colman and Ben Mendelssohn? Damn you Disney!
Can’t wait for The Bear. I devoured the whole thing a few months ago and then this weekend showed my dad the first episode, and man it was just as electric as the first time.
I’ve already got my Friday blocked off to see the conclusion of the batshit fever dream that Manifest has become.Very much looking forward to I’m a Virgo. I hope it’s just as much “what the hell did I just witness?!” as Sorry to Bother You was.
Oh, shit, I didn’t even see I’m a Virgo finally got a wide release date.
The Righteous Gemstones is very funny!
I’ve never realised that Colby Smulders looks like Tamsin Greig
I haven’t watched any, but what have these Walking Dead spinoffs been up to? I presume their “universe” has its own established rules about traits they do and don’t have? I’m asking because the Dead City trailer features an amorphous monster made up of a blob of a zombies… which is not something they should be able to do. That’s a ripoff of The Rat King from The Last of Us part 2, it’s how the infected in that universe works and there actually is an explanation for it. And unless TWD has changed how Walkers work, this feels like they’re plagiarizing one of that game’s coolest ideas.
