Kerry Washington to star in comic book adaptation for Hulu

Aux Features TV

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kerry Washington is set to produce and star in Old City Blues, an adaptation of Giannis Milonogiannis’ Boom! Studios graphic novel of the same name. The project is still in development, but if the show goes to series, it will be directed by Gore Verbinski. The original book is set in the year 2048 and takes place in a futuristic city built on the ruins of Greece that is full of “high-tech criminals.” The story is about a couple of future cops investigating the death of a cybernetic tech company CEO, making it sound sort of like a grimier, Greece-based version of Blade Runner. THR doesn’t know who Washington might be playing, since the project is so early in development that the specifics aren’t all nailed down yet, but the writers will presumably be tailoring whatever they come up with to Washington’s established strengths (like those dramatic Scandal speeches that start with one phrase and then circle back around to that same phrase in some clever, biting way).
