Kesha drops part of her lawsuit against Dr. Luke

As reported by Rolling Stone, Kesha has dropped one of her lawsuits against producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald. Kesha previously had two suits going against Gottwald, one in New York and one in California, with the California one being on hold until a final verdict was reached in her New York case. In April, a judge in New York dismissed Kesha’s sexual assault claims, and though she’s appealing that decision, she has now dropped the California suit entirely.

In an official statement, Kesha’s attorney explained that she “dismissed her California action without prejudice while she pursues her appeal and other legal claims in the New York courts.” On top of that, the attorney’s statement says that Kesha has “delivered 28 new songs to the record label” and has “conveyed to Sony and the label” that she has a “strong desire to release her next album and single as soon as possible.”

As classy as ever, one of Gottwald’s lawyers released a statement in response, saying that “if Kesha is voluntarily dismissing her claims in the California case, it is because she has no chance of winning them.” The statement also adds that Gottwald’s “defamation and other claims against Kesha are still proceeding.” As for those aforementioned 28 new songs, one of Rolling Stone’s sources says that Kesha has been recording them on her own and at her own expense over the last few months, presumably in hopes of Gottwald and his label making good on their insistence that she’s not being forced to work with the man she has accused of abusing her.

This news comes shortly after Kesha announced the so-called “Fuck The World Tour,” which features her first string of proper tour dates since this legal battle began.
