Lakeith Stanfield joins Adam Sandler in new film from the directors of Good Time

Aux Features LaKeith Stanfield

Adam Sandler, the actor and comedian who occasionally shambles out of his Happy Madison bubble to deliver indelible dramatic performances in films like Punch Drunk Love and The Meyerowitz Stories, delighted many when he signed on for an upcoming project by Josh and Benny Safdie. The Safdie brothers have helmed two of this decade’s most affecting indies in Heaven Knows What and Good Time, and anticipation is high for the Martin Scorsese-produced Uncut Gems.

Now, Deadline reports that Sandler will be joined by Atlanta’s Lakeith Stanfield, a hot property by any measure after nailing his leading turn in Boots Riley’s Sorry To Bother You, as well as reliable old hands Eric Bogosian and Judd Hirsch. Stanfield will play “a key ally to a famous client” of the jewelry store where Sandler’s character, a debt-laden gambling addict, holds court. The film is expected to shoot later this year, with A24 handling distribution.
