In the new episode of Danielle Fishel’s podcast, Pod Meets World, she and special guest Lance Bass not only reminisced on their late ‘90s romance but also revealed the two are working on a movie about their big prom night.

“Lance and I are actually working on a movie about our love story and about our prom experience,” Fishel says in the episode, per Variety. “I dated Lance for about a year while I was on Boy Meets World. It was my senior year and Lance came with me to my high school prom.”

The two first met when NSYNC appeared on a live special for Boy Meets World. After fellow bandmate Justin Timberlake helped Bass get Fishel’s number, the two dated for about a year, attending Fishel’s senior prom together.

“Lance and I had a very wonderful, very warm, loving relationship but it was completely lacking of intimacy—intimacy in the romantic sense,” Fishel explains. “Lance and I had a hotel room booked and I had a vision for what that night was going to be and Lance was very nervous about what my vision for that night was going to be. That is the night Lance talks about, where he felt like he was hurting me by not being honest with himself or anyone else about what was going on in his life so it was kind of the impetus for him to say, ‘I’m going to end our relationship.’”

Actor Lauren Lapkus (Good Girls, Orange Is The New Black) and Marie Holland (Happiest Season) are on board to write the script for the feature, which will dive into Bass’ conflicted feelings as a closeted gay man attending prom with a young woman and how this helped him publicly come out in 2006.

“The reason we wanted to make this prom story into a film, I think so many people can relate to that story; so many people in the LGBT community, their prom night was the night they were like, ‘Oh, wait a minute. This can’t happen anymore,’” he says. “This was the catalyst for me that made me start to accept myself, which took a long time after that, but that was definitely the first little straw that broke.”

Lords, my crush on Ms. Fishel in the day…and still! 😀

      She still looks great

    • liffie420-av says:

No kidding, she’s right up there with Sandra Bullock and Natalie Portman of girls/women I had a crush on as a teen that are still STUNNING now.

      • cfer-av says:

She does not hold up even close to how good Sandra Bullock and Natalie Portman have. She’s clearly had work done on her lips.
She’s still beautiful, but damn she should’ve stayed away from the knife.

I never watched the show, but I always thought she was very attractive in a “doesn’t look like every other girl in Hollywood” way. When you see a picture of her, you immediately know who you are looking at.

If you go to prom with a gay dude, aren’t you risking him looking more fabulous than you?

  • realtimothydalton-av says:

Does she talk about what happened to her husband on the podcast? The guy who made up the story about finding a shrimp in his box of cereal? anybody remember that?

    • nostalgic4thecta-av says:

Was it confirmed that he made it up? The pictures looked pretty convincing.

      • noisetanknick-av says:

Well he promised evidence that he wasn’t making it up and then when completely radio silent after that sooooooo…Remember how he went viral with his made-up story about shrimp tails in cereal and then got dragged by multiple women who had worked with him in the last decade for being an emotionally abusive creep?

        • nostalgic4thecta-av says:

I don’t remember that. I was just hoping it was a weird market test for sugary cinnamon shrimp cereal.

Confusing headline… thought that Danielle Fishel had come out at some point, too.

  • gone83-av says:

It’s almost certainly Mary Holland, not Marie Holland, who is writing this with Lauren Lapkus.

  • nostalgic4thecta-av says:

Why is Lance Bass dressed like some random talent manager from the Weird Al movie?

  • dresstokilt-av says:

Lance and I had a hotel room bookedWhen discussing parents of child actors, is there any middle ground between “absolutely dominated and mistreated their children” and “let their children fuck their famous boyfriend on prom night?”

    • feijoo-av says:

Doesn’t everyone book a hotel room and stay out all night on prom night?

    • wuthaniel-av says:

Lots of teens fuck on their prom night. You make it seem like it wildly neglectful of their parents.

    • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

“Lance and I had a hotel room booked…and my parents were all like ‘Yeah, that’s fine’”

    • junwello-av says:

Unfortunately I bet those aren’t mutually exclusive.

    • pophead911-av says:

I listened to the podcast and they all claim that it was the normal thing at their school

    • caktuarking-av says:

I mean, my girlfriend and I booked a hotel room on prom night, along with everything else that entails. Both my parents and her parents weren’t aware of that, because we lied to them. That’s kind of a thing teenagers do.

I mean, maybe Danielle and Lance didn’t lie to their respective parents and the parents were actually totally cool with it; I have no idea. Just saying, you may be jumping to conclusions.

    • yyyass-av says:

Ehhhhh…… her Dad probably knew nothing was going to happen.

  • volunteerproofreader-av says:

    That lady positively screams “beard”

    • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

The phrasing of “and Lance came with me to my high school prom.” Not “he was my date” or even “We went together”. “He came with me” like he just showed up.
And the pic, she looks stunning and he looks like he’s afraid to touch her.
      Ok, I’m done nitpicking.

  • ijohng00-av says:

i love Lauren Lapkus! She elevated The Wrong Missy (2020).plus, lol, i thought this news story was about both of them being gay.

  • gterry-av says:

So I am curious if this movie is going to be a sincere drama, or because it is set in the 90’s is it going to be a 90’s style comedy where everyone but Danielle realizes Lance is gay and she refuses to accept it. Or she figures out he is gay but thinks that a night with her in a hotel room can turn him straight.  I mean the Seinfeld episode where Elaine thinks she can make someone not gay came out in 1995.

  • Mr-John-av says:

Poor bastard is hover handing his prom date – happy it all worked out for him in the end.

  • yyyass-av says:

That prom pic speaks volumes though. That floating, hesitant hand. Especially for a couple at that point. I feel for all those who had to live those generations of anti-gay hostility, having to play pretend at such an intimate level for such large stakes. He could no more get into THAT than I could be forced to put my hands on another guy and look happy about it. Kudos to them for handling it so well and with such maturity at a young age.

  • electricsheep198-av says:

They mentioned this on the radio this morning and the DJs were surprised that they dated and I felt hella old, like where were you in the 90s, everyone knew this.

  • evt2-av says:

Mary Holland, not Marie. Jeesh, this is getting comically bad.
