Leprechaun horror franchise to receive inevitable reboot

Aux Features Film

Just in time for the holidays, Total Film reports that Lionsgate is teaming up with WWE Films to reboot the Leprechaun franchise, the 1993-2003 series that ripped the lid off the idea that the wee folk are mischievous but basically adorable scamps. There were five Leprechaun films in all. The first is best-remembered as the movie debut of Jennifer Aniston, who’d much rather talk about, oh, The Good Girl, Office Space, Friends With Money, Wanderlust, hell, maybe Bruce Almighty.

No word yet on who's attached to direct, write, or act in it, let alone which professional wrestler will be stepping into Jennifer Aniston’s shoes. However, all the films in the original series—from Leprechaun, Leprechaun 2, and Leprechaun 3, right down to Leprechaun 4: In Space and Leprechaun: Back 2 the Hood starred Warwick Davis in the title role. And if you saw him scaling a bookshelf in the latest episode of his HBO series Life's Too Short, you know he's still spry. Anyone who's interested in sending in a spec script but needs to do his research first should know that SyFY is running a marathon of the first three films tomorrow, in anticipation of the world premiere of its new nightmare vision Leprechaun's Revenge, which apparently has no connection with the original series but does feature the terrifying Billy Zane.
