Madonna has been released from intensive care and is recovering, according to her longtime manager Guy Oseary. Her forthcoming Celebration Tour has been postponed.

In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday afternoon, Oseary wrote, “On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”

The tour, which is intended to be a career-spanning, greatest-hits collection, was announced in January with a star-studded promotional video. The first scheduled show was set for July 15 in Vancouver, and it was slated to continue across North America through October, at which point Madonna would take the show to Europe for a series of dates across that continent. Madonna had also added dates in the United States and Mexico in December and January, according to CNN.

While the tour was expected to be something of a victory lap, 2023 hasn’t been an easy year for the pop star. In February, Madonna’s older brother, Anthony, died at 66; TMZ later cited respiratory failure and cancer as the cause. Her appearance at the Grammys earlier that month also sparked controversy as tabloids speculated on her changing face. Madonna responded defiantly at the time, as is her wont; “I look forward to many more years of subversive behavior -pushing boundaries-Standing up to the patriarchy -and Most of all enjoying my life,” she wrote on Instagram amid the backlash.

Turns out having every single STD known to man has finally caught up with the old bird.

I know Mads likes to claim empowerment as the reason for everything she does, but these alterations are a preoccupation with ageism and if you’ve seen her new butt… well, that’s just appropriation at its worst. Her latest examples aren’t the way this feminist would like to see a woman “shock” the world.

    • bcfred2-av says:

No one’s telling her what she can or can’t do, so I’m not sure why turning herself into…well, whatever that is would be considered empowering.  Way to stick it to the man?

one thing about madonna, when she gets into something, she goes 150% into it. so good for her, i guess.i always say, if you want to see a woman ‘age gracefully,’ check cyndi lauper.

I can only guess that fame does something hardcore to a person. I can’t in any way imagine what, but this makes me very sad. I was always a fan even though her towering ego put me off sometimes.

        • ohnoray-av says:

that ego got her where she’s at. something kind of amazing about madonna is that she’s not a talented vocalist, but she is one of the best performers out there.

      • thepetemurray-darlingbasinauthorithy-av says:

Because she still wants men to want to stick it to her.

      • nogelego-av says:

Whatever that is? Seriously? She is not an animal….she is a human being!

Madonna being called for appropriation of minority cultures??  I’m shocked (though I have to admit I hadn’t thought of that in connection with her umm enhanced butt until your comment, unlike Vogue, or more recently the grill, etc…  Though at least with Vogue she appropriated it into something of its own quality…)

      • breadnmaters-av says:

Oh my, Madonna has been appropriating since the 80s. Here’s her album cover borrowing Mandela’s photo. Then there’s the borrowing of the Berber culture. And, of course a video that, well, it’s called “Frozen.” But it’s said to be a blatant ripoff from a band called Electric Skychurch. She likes to dress up.

        • ericmontreal22-av says:

Yep yep, sorry my comment acting shocked at Madonna being called out for appropriating from minorities was meant to be sarcastic…

          • breadnmaters-av says:

Ah. So sorry for the photo gallery then. I’m not picking up tone very well lately.

          • ericmontreal22-av says:

No worries–I actually didn’t know a lot of those, or had forgotten.  I always go back to hearing how she appropriated Vogue from the gay ballroom scene, etc, nothing with such direct visuals.

It’s almost like spending every other weekend in the hospital getting plastic surgery might not be so great on one’s exposure to bacteria.

  • bcfred2-av says:

“…tabloids speculated on her changing face.”What speculation is the least bit necessary here?? Any more plastic surgery and she’ll end up looking like that socialite cat woman. I couldn’t tell you one thing about her Grammy performance because I was so shocked and dismayed at her appearance. Call it subversive all you like lady, no one’s buying.

  • steinjodie-av says:

Wishing her a full recovery. ICU is scary.

  • hulk6785-av says:

I always thought that Madonna was gonna be one of those rare ladies in entertainment who ages gracefully.  Seeing photos of her today have shown how foolish I was.

  • mikolesquiz-av says:

    I can’t believe she’s only 64.

  • MisterSterling-av says:

That’s quite serious. It’s well known that she has been taking many risks with plastic surgery. I can’t see her doing a 6 month tour ever again. She barely got through the disastrous Madame X tour.

  • ghboyette-av says:

Bunch of gross comments here. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

    • fever-dog-av says:

Yeah, weird. Not the best photo choice.  As I post there’s a thumbnail of current Madonna to the right and she looks great.

    • gotpma-av says:

The comments are valid she looks weird. if this was someone nobody like people wouldn’t bat an eye to make snarky remarks.

  • kencerveny-av says:

Did she find an AI generated picture of Marlene Dietrich, take it to her plastic surgeon and say “Let’s go with this?”

  • bupkuszen-av says:

The circus can continue without her. There must be a backup baboon.

  • sybann-av says:

Someone always needs to be in my life that can and will tell me the truth. Obviously she has no one.

  • marceline8-av says:

There has to be a better picture of her to go with this story.

  • fiddlydee-av says:

There is a real human woman, an icon of popular culture, and someone who
has been a benefactor to causes her entire life too numerous to
flippantly list here… who has had a real health scare. And most of the
people here have decided to be hideous about her work and appearance.
I’m no Madonna stan but my god, you people are fucking disgusting and I
hope if you’re ever in such a predicament or one like it, people show
you more compassion than you’re exhibiting now. Even if you certainly do
    not deserve it.
