Earlier this week, Disney held a preview event for season two of underrated animated series What If…? (a show that is a canonical depiction of the MCU multiverse, even if the rest of the MCU doesn’t care about acknowledging it) and showed off a teaser video promoting other upcoming Disney+ Marvel cartoons—including the previously announced X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (announced as Spider-Man: Freshman Year in 2022). But there was one animated series in the teaser we didn’t know about: Eyes Of Wakanda, a Black Panther spin-off show about different heroes throughout the history of the secret African nation.

Here’s the official premise from Variety: “Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts. This is their story.” (We don’t know if the Law & Order sound played after “this is their story” when this was originally presented, but we hope it was.) Variety says that Black Panther and Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler is “involved” in the show as part of his existing development deal with Disney, but we don’t know how involved he is or what that really means. It’s probably better the more involved he is, but who knows.

Another thing we don’t know is if this is the same Wakanda-based Black Panther spin-off that Ryan Coogler has been developing for a few years. We had assumed that would be a live-action show, since Disney and Marvel Studios hadn’t released any animated shows when that news first came out, but it could be a cartoon now. We’ve reached out to Disney for clarification, but have not received a response yet. Either way, since the show hasn’t really been publicly announced, it’s probably still a ways off.
