Mood Indigo

Aux News Coming Distractions

The first trailer for Michel Gondry's Mood Indigo checks all the obvious Gondry boxes. It features, among other Gondry-esque hallmarks of surreal, quirky romance, an olfactory-musical instrument (the "pianocktail"), an underwater wedding, a see-through car, lots of typewriters, musical backing from The Lumineers, and several French title cards.

Mood Indigo is based on L’Ecume Des Jours, a 1947 French novel by Boris Vian that focuses on an inventor (who creates the aforementioned pianocktail), here played by Romain Duris (Heartbreaker), and his lover played by Audrey Tatou (Amelie). She develops a disease that, of course, can only be cured by surrounding her with lots and lots of flowers. Shockingly, the flowers are among the only things nowhere to be seen here.
