More disappointment for Big Fat Liar fans as Paul Giamatti signs on to Hostel TV show
Paul Giamatti will finally live his dream of killing someone in a Hostel TV show
Aux News Giamatti![More disappointment for Big Fat Liar fans as Paul Giamatti signs on to Hostel TV show](https://img.pastemagazine.com/wp-content/avuploads/2024/06/26113220/8c4ea1fa7225342350ee6de5283e81b5.jpg)
In what can only be described as a dark day for anyone hoping Paul Giamatti would use his Oscar clout to get an eight-episode Big Fat Liar miniseries made, the Academy Award-winning actor who Frankie Muniz made blue is checking into the Hostel. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Giamatti’s next role will be in a TV series based on Eli Roth’s notorious extreme horror hit Hostel. The film, credited along with Saw, as kickstarting the post-9/11 run of so-called “torture porn” splatter films, sees a trio of backpackers booking a stay at one of those cheap sadism motels, where creeps in masks rip your toes off and stuff. But where TripAdvisor says, “No,” Giamatti says, “Go.”
Franchise mastermind Eli Roth, currently promoting his upcoming Borderlands adaptation, is returning to write and direct the series, along with co-writer Chris Briggs, who was a producer on the original. However, while Giamatti is pegged for a “key role” in what’s already being called a “modern adaptation,” an “elevated thriller,” and a “reinvention” (this whole thing is going to be about cancel culture, isn’t it?), not much is known about the plot.
However, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the show might finally give Giamatti the opportunity to kill someone in a Hostel thing. Speaking to EW in 2013, Giamatti said he met Roth in Prague while he was making The Illusionist and Roth was making Hostel. “We talked about me actually killing somebody in that movie, but it never panned out,” Giamatti said, presumably allowing a single tear to flow down his cheek in commemoration of the missed opportunity. As luck would have it, that fateful meeting between Giamatti and Roth would help the former land John Dies At The End. John Dies director Don Coscarelli says he received an “over-the-top email” from Roth alerting him to the news that “Paul Giamatti wants to work with you.”
See that, Mr. Giamatti. We’ve come full circle. If you love something, set it free, and if it returns, it was meant to be. So, chin up. You’ll get to kill someone in a Hostel yet.

I was hoping it would be a documentary and we would be able to see Giamatti commit an actual murder on television. Disappointed.
Aaaand the award for Most Unappealing New TV Show goes to….HOSTEL!!!
Seriously we really don’t need this. What more can they do that wasn’t done in the films? They bled a virgin dry then cut a guys junk off & fed it to dogs.
Well I mean in a long form context like a show versus a movie, they could look more into the group, or groups, behind the torture farms.
That is… not a premise or world I want to live in for eight hours.I’m sure Roth knows this and is constructing this “reimagining” around that problem but… oof. This has the danger of being insanely repetitive and unpleasant.
Flow My Tears, Giamatti said
I did like John Dies At the End, though
JFC stop giving Eli Roth money. Same with M. “Night” Shyamalan. Failing sideways and pretending it’s success is the new definition of insanity
Eh, Roth is more consistent than Shyamalan. He makes low to mid budget horror flicks. There’s always going to be an audience for that sort of thing and he seems to at least make a small profit most of the time.
I’m still pissed Zaslav cancelled 30 Monedas after Giamatti guest-starred in season two:
https://en.softonic.com/articles/max-cancels-30-coins-but-alex-de-la-iglesia-doesnt-give-up-and-wants-to-finish-it-no-matter-what
Lodge 49 was also cancelled after he guest-starred in the second season. Is he jinxed?
Have I slipped into a pocket dimension? Paul Giamatti is not an Academy award winning actor. He should be! But he’s not…
