NBC remaking Andy Samberg's BBC series Cuckoo

NBC has let a string of shows with its network comedy veterans leave the fold to seek greener pastures at Fox over these past few development seasons: Mindy Kaling on The Mindy Project, Andy Samberg on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Tina Fey’s women’s college series, and now John Mulaney’s retooled series. But now the network is trying to make it all better by picking up something from one of its known quantities, then combining it with a tactic that yielded its last big comedy hit: remaking a series from the United Kingdom. This time it’s Cuckoo, the BBC comedy that starred Samberg in his first post-SNL role as the hippie husband to a middle-class English girl, who brings him home after a summer abroad. It's unknown as yet whether the remake will flip to depict an American girl bringing home an eccentric Englishman (cue Mumford & Sons), but he will still be a hippie clashing with her father. Samberg is not expected to star, unless something equally unexpected happens to Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
