Nicholas Hoult, Henry Cavill, and Luke Evans join Iraq war drama Sand Castle

Aux Features Film

ComingSoon reports that Nicholas Hoult, Henry Cavill, and Luke Evans have all signed on for the upcoming Iraq war drama Sand Castle. Fernando Coimbra (Narcos, A Wolf At The Door) is attached to direct with a script from Chris Roessner that’s based on his own experience as a machine gunner in the Sunni Triangle in 2003. The film will be produced by Steve JobsMark Gordon, Justin Nappi (Arbitrage), and Ben Pugh (Welcome To The Punch), and is set to begin production next month.

Hoult will lead the film as Matt Ocre, who’s on a mission to fix the broken water system in the “dangerous and unstable Iraqi village of Baqubah.” Although the city of Baghdad was more welcoming of the American soldiers (or, to use the PR parlance of the time, “saviors”), the people of Baqubah resisted that narrative. So Matt and his unit—which includes Cavill, Evans, and Toby Kebbell of the upcoming Warcraft movie—must convince the Baqubah residents that they’re actually “not the problem in order to save the town and get out alive.” We’re pretty sure that will end well.
