Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, KISS, and more will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Finally, someone in the music industry is talking about Nirvana. The Seattle grunge band was just named a member of the 2014 class of inductees to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, along with Peter Gabriel, KISS, Hall And Oates, Cat Stevens, and Linda Ronstadt. They’ll be joined by the E Street Band, which is receiving an award for musical excellence, along with Beatles manager Brian Epstein and Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, who will each receive the Ahmet Ertegun award for non-performers.

Among those who were nominated, but passed over induction this year, were The Replacements, N.W.A. Chic, LL Cool J, The Zombies, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Deep Purple, Link Wray, The Meters, and Yes.

This was Nirvana’s first year of eligibility for induction, based on the fact that the group’s first release—a cover of Shocking Blue’s “Love Buzz”—came out in 1988. Both Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic have released statements about the induction, saying they’re honored while offering up special thanks to the late Kurt Cobain.
