October is the official start of the spooky season, and the TV calendar definitely—thankfully—reflects that. Need proof? Horror favorite Mike Flanagan drops his final Netflix show, The Fall Of The House Of Usher, over the coming weeks. Meanwhile, a Goosebumps series and John Carpenter anthology are set to premiere, as are the latest seasons of Chucky and Shining Vale.

But it’s not all about frights: Disney+ continues adding to its Marvel slate with the much-anticipated second season of Loki, and period-drama fans can rejoice with The Gilded Ages latest batch of episodes and Brie Larson’s new show for Apple TV+. And that’s just scratching the surface. Here is The A.V. Club’s guide to all the major TV projects to keep you entertained throughout October.

Found | Official Trailer | Starring Shanola Hampton | NBC

Last month’s isn’t the only new fall network show we’re getting on NBC this year. The network is pairing it with a crime drama that focuses on missing people. Public relations specialist Gabi Mosley (Shanola Hampton)—who was once missing herself—has now made it her mission to look for those who are forgotten. Along with her crisis management team, she solves cases, but unbeknownst to anyone, she’s hiding a chilling secret (because of course she is—it wouldn’t be a soapy drama otherwise). The cast includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Kelli Williams, Brett Dalton, and Karan Oberoi. [Saloni Gajjar]

Also, it was announced yesterday that Moonlighting will make it’s streaming debut on Hulu October 10.

Holy shit, really? The music rights must have been a hell of a tangle.Or they just cut the licensed music from the original broadcasts and replaced it with generic crap.

      • gwbiy2006-av says:

‘TVLine has confirmed with sources that “great care” was given to preserving the tone and style of the series, while limiting the number of replacement songs. Specifically, we hear that all of the songs sung on-screen by Shepherd, Willis and the supporting cast are intact in the remastered version of the series. And while many of the other songs that are “critical” to storylines also remain, “ambiance music” in supper club, cocktail party and bar scenes has been swapped out.’

Huh. I wonder how it holds up. I didn’t watch much prime time tv in college, but this was must-see TV every week.

I like Flanagan’s series very much but I’m not into the vibe of this trailer. Nothing about the wealthy family theme appeals to me, and it looks too comical, albeit darkly so.Pity we won’t get to a Lovecraft themed Witch House*, or David Mitchell’s Slade House. Also, how dare you leave Henry Thomas out of that list of regulars.

    * I know there have been adaptations, but I haven’t seen a good one yet. I’d be interested to see what Flanagan would do with a mashup of less cosmic stories like Cool Air, The Music of Erich Zahn, Herbert West, and The Outsider

    • ghboyette-av says:

Slightly off topic but you just made me want to see a Flanagan version of Con Air.

You nailed my sentiments exactly. I like his stuff but this trailer leaves me completely disinterested.

    • wnbso-av says:

Have you tried the softcore gay one? The ending fully redeems everything that came before it. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1017442/reference/

      • browza-av says:

I meant adaptations of Lovecraft’s “Dreams in the Witch-house”. I’m not sure what a gay version of that would even look like.

        • risingson2-av says:

you don’t like the Stuart Gordon one? 🙁

          • browza-av says:

It was okay. I didn’t love the modernization. But my main thing is, Brown Jenkin is possibly my favorite literary monster, and no one makes him scary. Even in the Cabinet of Curiosities version where he was really ferocious, he was impish and even kind of cute.

  • dreadpirateroberts-ayw-av says:

Also, I don’t really understand the Frasier thing. Don’t get me wrong, I think Frasier is probably one of the best written comedies of its era, if not ever. But it has been essentially two decades, no returning cast aside from Dr. Crane himself. People rarely catch lightning in a bottle twice, especially with an ensamble type show such as this.

    • redwolfmo-av says:

feels like its set up to be a major flop.  The show ended with one of the best final episodes I’ve ever seen.

      • paulfields77-av says:

The one thing making me want to see it is the presence of Nicholas Lyndhurst, who is UK sitcom royalty.  Whether he’ll be a good fit remains to be seen.

  • reasoneddiscrse-av says:

    Simpsons Season 35, not 25.

  • coldsavage-av says:

I like Flanagan (Midnight Mass in particular was something I enjoyed) but agree on the monologuing. I read somewhere, maybe even a commenter here on AVClub, that it is emblematic of so many Netflix series that have pacing problems. It got to the point where I would see Kate Siegel and Zach Gilford in the same room and think “uh oh, here comes a 7 minute monologue about feelings” and would kind of zone out. Castlevania did that too, where there was a ton of pontificating followed by hyper-kinetic action for about 2 minutes. I still liked them and will give Fall of House of Usher a try, but man… there has to be an editor out there that could fix those pacing problems.I want to be interested in Loki but the back half of S1 did not work for me, plus I am a little burned out on the MCU now. Maybe this is the time to get into Rick and Morty (despite at least part of the fanbase), Shining Vale or Doom Patrol.

What cockbag decided to change the slideshow system so that you can’t click through slides more than once every few seconds?

    • thepetemurray-darlingbasinauthorithy-av says:

The ad manager: got to have that dark pattern so people at least spend some time watch an ad. You have to move your mouse pointer of the arrow and back on again before you can click again, too.

  • paulfields77-av says:

I’m hoping Our Flag Means Death hits its stride this season. I was a little disappointed with Season 1, but I’m rooting for it.

  • it-has-a-super-flavor--it-is-super-calming-av says:

It’s the second season of Lupin.
The first season was in two parts.
