"Old Town Road" now has a music video starring Chris Rock, Vince Staples, and Diplo

Aux Features lil nas x

Maybe you’ve gotten a little tired of “Old Town Road,” what with all its remixes and remixes of remixes. Fact of the matter is, however, America simply cannot get enough of taking its horse to the Old Town Road—not even a new single by Taylor Goddamn Swift could bump Lil Nas X from the Billboard Hot 100's top spot. Now, the song’s inevitable video is here with a whole stable of celebrity cameos, including Chris Rock, Vince Staples, Rico Nasty, Diplo, and more.

The YouTube description calls this the “Old Town Road Official Movie,” and, though it’s definitely a music video and not a movie, we’ve learned not to tell Lil Nas X what things are and are not. The plot of the video finds Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus on the run from Chris Rock on the Old West version of the Old Town Road. Soon, a grumpy rancher chases them through a time portal that lands them on the Old Town Road of 2019, which is now a Southern California neighborhood. There, Lil Nas X wins races his horse against Vince Staples’ sports car and Cyrus, getting the raw end of the deal, performs at a bingo hall. Come for Vince Staples telling Lil Nas X to get off his car, stay because, fuck it, you’re never getting this song out of your head anyway.

I really love the fact that this song scares white racists. The fact that a black kid from Atlanta managed to make the catchiest “country” song in ages must really burn those assholes.

And the fact that somebody like Billy Ray Cyrus can see it just shows how moronic they’re being.

Idk what I was expecting but that was super-cute.

Hahaha fuck it, gatekeeping is dumb. Best country song I’ve heard in years. I’m all for the Yee-Haw agenda. (I really do like this song.)

This video is great. I love the way the kid says “Mama” near the beginning. Comedy gold.

We need to make a time machine and tell everyone in the ‘90s that one of the biggest hits of 2019 will feature Billy Ray Cyrus singing over a NIN sample. “Wait, what about other stuff in the future?” they’ll say, and we’ll just be like, “Bye!”

This was equal parts ridiculous and amazing.

I feel incredibly old for not understanding the popularity of this song.  I even listen to a fair amount of new stuff and enjoy it, but this song eludes me.  I think it sucks.

Forget about the song, that’s a pretty amazing video that somehow tells the story about the journey of the song. This is too many stages of meta.

    That was genuinely fun.

Damn it, this song just becomes more and more fun with each passing day. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to start another playthrough of Red Dead Redemption 2. Maybe see what my RDO character can do too.

Actually, this song will exit my head permanently by the time I go to sleep here shortly. Video is fun, but what’s so catchy about this music?
