Fashion changes so frequently, it’s hard to keep up. But Tan France has introduced the world to the French tuck, giving the laypeople of the earth something to be forever grateful for. Especially now that it’s officially been christened by Oprah Winfrey herself, all thanks to Brie Larson.

Larson appeared at the 10th annual Women in the World Summit in New York on Wednesday to speak on a Q&A fittingly titled “The Superhero We Deserve.” She found her way to what looks like Oprah Winfrey’s dressing room, as one would and should if given the chance. Winfrey was the keynote speaker that night, and also just so happened to love Larson’s outfit.

Their meeting was captured in a video posted to Larson’s Instagram, which begins with Oprah and BFF Gayle King admiring Larson’s boots. As Larson starts to walk away, bidding her a wonderful talk, Winfrey remarked that she loved the “half-in, half-out tuck thing too.” This is where the video gets better.

Larson exclaims that she learned it from France on Queer Eye and everyone just erupts. Winfrey gets a closer look, Larson does a little spin for her to examine better, and, just like that, Tan from Queer Eye is cemented in history as introducing one of the biggest actors in the world to the French tuck, and by extension, Oprah herself.

Winfrey tells her she’s “never seen it look this good” and to hear that? From Oprah? Larson is properly fangirling at this point. All composure, gone. As for Mr. France? Honestly, same.

He reposted Larson’s video with a caption you can literally hear from your phone screen, writing, “Now THIS is the best way to start the fucking day!” He of course shoots his shot, putting the ball in Oprah’s court for a France-assisted tuck. In an accompanying Instagram story, he, like any of is would, celebrated King’s proclamation: “Yes, we know Tan.” Who knew a simple half-shirt tuck meant to spruce up an outfit could be such a revolutionary conversation starter. Tan-fricken’-France, that’s who.

And with Brie Larson’s adorable “Okay bye,” at the end, it truly was a beautiful crossing over of pop culture entities.

Who would have thought my “hungover and 20 minutes late for work” style of dressing would be fashionable one day

And I thought “French tuck” was a drag technique.

Credit where credit is due, eh?

They don’t call him the Great One for nothing!

It’s SO weird to me that this is a thing. First, it’s just common sense. Second, this is a staple move for any dude that’s a bit overweight but not quite officially fat.

At first I thought we were talking about his haircut, and then I though it had something to do with how he rolled his sleeves.  Imagine my disappointment when it just ended up meaning Half-Dressed.

Although Oprah and Gayle do say they know Tan, but it does feel like they haven’t seen Queer Eye the show (which of course, they are so busy)… Still glad the gospel was spread thru Brie Larson

But Tan France has introduced the world to the French tuckNOPE.
Almost every quasi-fashionable flat gutted dude on TV was doing this years before Queer Eye’s 2018 revival.I bet I’ve been seeing it (mostly on men) commonly for at least 5 years.
Tan-via-Brie may have enlightened Oprah – but “the world”..? Nope.
It got so VERY prevalent it became annoying.
Every doosh from American Idol contestants to your local casual on-the-street reporter was flashing the half-tuck/front-tuck style at one point a few years ago. Here’s comedy-bro Dane Cook from 2009 fercryinoutloud:
And a quick Google search brings up articles from 2015 highlighting the style for women’s fashions. What’s that? Do I have some issue with the half-tuck? Of course not. What, my heavens, would give anyone that impression?
(actually I think it looks fine)

    What?

I always thought the French tuck looks good for like, a photo, or just One moment – then you move your body in any way whatsoever, and it is completely undone. Also – in my younger years – it was a ‘dirty’ look, sported by only the trashiest of racist white suburbanites…which I then tried, moved an arm at all, realized it doesn’t work, etc.

French tuck? I’m not sure what… Oh, you mean the Nathan Drake half-tuck?

  • reverand-cletus-av says:

well hell, I’ve been doing the French tuck for years, then. I mean, I tuck my shirts in all the way and through the course of the day only the front is left tucked in, but hey! – Fashion!!
