It took about a month, but Queen Latifah has finally commented on the firing of her Equalizer co-star Chris Noth, whose career careened off a cliff last month when five women accused the actor of sexual misconduct and assault.

Speaking to People (The TV Show!), Latifah was careful to avoid any specific opinion one way or another about Noth’s firing. “It is such a dicey, delicate situation that requires a great deal of respect,” Latifah said in the new interview. “That’s a personal thing that he’s going to have to deal with.”

Queen Latifah said they still haven’t decided how they’ll address Noth’s firing on the CBS procedural, where he plays series regular William Bishop. “We are figuring out what we want to do creatively on the show and how we’re going to deal with that character,” she said. “Chris’ character’s obviously a big part of the show, and it was amazing chemistry, amazing chemistry. And my feeling is justice has to prevail, regardless. I just want the right things to be done, you know?”

This response is a little vaguer than the one made by the And Just Like That… stars. On December 20, the three series leads, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon, voiced support to the accusers in a joint statement, “We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth. We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it much be a very difficult thing to do, and we commend them for it.”

Of course, Noth had already been killed off of their show. In the second episode of And Just Like That…, his character dies of a Peloton-induced heart attack (a common problem among characters from prestige TV), leading to a once-in-a-lifetime viral marketing push by Peloton and Ryan Reynolds. When the accusations came to light, though, the makers of America’s favorite stationary bike plus iPad pulled the campaign shortly. The actor shot a final scene for the series finale, but that too has since been scrapped.

i get people need to protect their paycheque, but this feels slimy as hell.

I suppose they’re trying to write his exit in such a way that they can have him return, on the off chance this all blows over. Something like putting him in a coma or having him transferred to a listening post on the North Slope of Alaska.I really don’t think it will all blow over for Noth. Geoffrey Rush had one accuser, counter sued and won, and still hasn’t worked since. Noth is no Geoffrey Rush.

It’s not like the accusation against Geoffrey Rush came out of nowhere. Just because he didn’t do anything criminal doesn’t mean he wasn’t doing some pretty unprofessional stuff that people chalked up to “oh that’s just theatre antics!” I wouldn’t take the risk as an employer.

Right because you’re a horrible person

      • saltier-av says:

True. No one’s going to take the risk.My point is that if an actor of Rush’s caliber can’t recover from accusations of impropriety, Noth doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in Hell.

Given the nature of his character on the show it will be pretty easy to have him “go dark” due to his activity in the spy business. In fact, the last we saw of him in the show had him pulling strings that would make him a target for angry US spy masters. So they’ll replace his character with someone else to be a deus ex machina every time Latifah’s character needs outside help.

      • saltier-av says:

I see that as the more likely case. There are plenty of decent middle-aged actors who can play the role of retired spy a few episodes a year.

Geoffrey Rush had more than one accuser. His statement after the second one came forward was…not great.

“Something like putting him in a coma or having him transferred to a listening post on the North Slope of Alaska.”Nah, he’ll just be Exiled to Staten Island.

It’s not as if this is brand new for Noth. One of the reasons he got kicked out of Law and Order originally was because he publicly btched about the execs forcing the show to have women on the main cast.

Criminal Intent did Annabella Sciorra dirty, IMO. God forbid the female detective paired with Noth is the smarter, more mature of the two. Better ditch her for an ingénue (or two).

As a random guy on the interwebs and upon hearing some privileged information that I will not share, I have come to the conclusion that Noth is a scumbag.Back off Queen Latifah. That is all.

“I just want the right things to be done, you know?” And by “right things”, I mean “this is all I have to say and I’m not taking a side here”.

  • thenoblerobot-av says:

I wish one of these shows had the chutzpa to write a character off a show in the same manner that the actor was fired.“Some awful behavior came to light, and we don’t want him around this [hospital/friend group/law firm/space station] anymore.”It’s actually quite realistic. Often, these things seem to come out of the blue simply because we don’t know the details of people’s private lives. If fiction embraced this “trope” we might as a culture be better able to let go of our heroes when they turn out to be scuzzbuckets.

My wife loves this show, and is very sad. Not sad enough to spend an afternoon alone with Chris Noth, but…I, on the other hand, so wish that it meant the end of this flatulent time-wasting turd of a series. At lest it’s not like books, where trees had to die.

  • taoka-av says:

I mean…I am fine with what she said. She simply sounds as someone who really doesn’t want to be pulled into something that has nothing to do with her. By pure coincidence she ended up with him in the same series. Thats it.
And she didn’t defend him either. So its totally fine. Not everyone has to be the judge, jury and executor.

“Chris’ character’s obviously a big part of the show, and it was amazing chemistry, amazing chemistry. And my feeling is justice has to prevail, regardless. I just want the right things to be done, you know?”Is there anybody except rich weirdos who talk like this?
