Reservation Dogs would’ve had 5 seasons if it was up to FX

We all know it: There’s nothing like a TV show ending on a high note. It’s exactly what FX’s Reservation Dogs did last year when it wrapped its run with a sublime third season. The show was always spectacular, and everyone’s glad it went out at its peak, but FX secretly wanted at least five seasons of the show. (Imagine all that we could’ve had!).

At the 2024 Television Critics Association’s (TCA) winter press tour, FX Chairman John Landgraf revealed that it was their initial plan to do those five seasons. However, said he was surprised to get the call from series creator Sterlin Harjo that “he had written the perfect ending to his show” in season three itself. He adds: “It took courage for him to say the story is finished, and we respected that.”

While Res Dogs has been critically acclaimed since it began, the show has been robbed of any major Emmy wins. It wasn’t even nominated for its second season, which is a travesty and demonstrates that voters need to be watching more television. Thankfully, Landgraf said FX plans to make sure that changes for the upcoming 2024 ceremony in September. (Yes, there’s going to be another Emmys this year).

“We will make a big push behind it despite the lack of recognition so far,” Landgraf said. The final season, which aired from August to September 2023, falls under the eligibility period this year. And you know what, it’s about damn time Res Dogs earns its due, so here’s hoping Emmy voters are finally paying attention and watching one of the best, most groundbreaking TV shows in recent years.
