Rob Schneider’s journey from Saturday Night Live star to Adam Sandler stooge to conservative conspiracy theory comedy has been well documented. A simple scroll through his Twitter/X profile reveals the kind of political content Schneider is consuming and regurgitating (reposting far-right account Libs of TikTok, for example). His alignment with the Republican-leaning infotainment ecosystem extends to his last stand-up special, Rob Schneider: Woke Up In America airing on the Fox News streaming service Fox Nation. But it turns out his brand of comedy may be too extreme for even some of the niche conservative audience he’s been cultivating.
According to Politico, Schneider was cut off ten minutes into a half-hour comedy set at a Republican networking holiday event last year because his material was too offensive. His material was reportedly “raunchy” and racist, with jokes “aimed at Asian people” including one about “Korean whore-houses.” It was so “gross and vulgar” that Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith walked out of the performance: “She didn’t have to listen to it and so she got up and left,” her spokesperson told the outlet.
All 150 attendees (“which included more than 40 Senate chiefs of staff”) received an apology from organizers the next day which read, “While we do our best to ensure every aspect of our program is professional, courteous, and appropriate, we sincerely regret that the entertainment at last night’s program fell short of that goal.” The Senate Working Group, the networking organization that held the event, claimed that Schneider broke a verbal agreement “to keep his set relatively clean.” Schneider has not returned The A.V. Club’s request for comment.
The GOP organizers were clearly banking on the kind of anti-woke, “liberals are losers” kind of comedy that apparently characterizes the Woke Up In America special. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for, and Schneider’s comedy was never really PC even before his descent into questionable political comedy. He also doesn’t necessarily have any loyalty to Republican leadership; he has endorsed fellow conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as an Independent, for president. Schneider performed at an RFK Jr. campaign fundraising event in February; he either learned his lesson from the previous event or cared more about RFK Jr.’s audience, as that event seems to have gone ahead without a hitch.

I’ll admit I am a bit morbidly curious what is on Fox Nation, but I don’t even want to google it for fear I’ll end up on some kind of list (even a donor list for those assholes). I can’t even imagine what their movies and “comedy” section is like.
I think Fox Nation is a “subscription” service or that is what they were trying to be, but I see their shows on all the time on the other Fox News Channel, the business one with the sex assualters and Trump shills. Rowe has built an entire career out of pretending sympathy to the working class and getting away with it because he looks the part. He’s one of those that think people who do dirty jobs should get to be called “Real Americans” in speeches but paying them more is out of the question. Psychological wages instead of monetary ones. I liked Dirty Jobs, and then I started seeing his truck commercials (where I think he does use the phrase “real Americans” or something similar) and hearing some things he says outside of the show that aren’t full-on MAGA but are the kinds of things you know the MAGAs are listening for, so I knew where he was politically. I just hate to see it.
So Schneider, via his connection to Adam Sandler, has done a few movies with Steve Buscemi, and I always had the impression that Steve was a pretty decent guy. I wonder if on set they kept their distance as much as possible, or maybe politics just doesn’t come up on those extended vacations that are Sandler’s movies.

In my experience the more obnoxiously conservative someone is, the more likely they are to share their politic opinions uninvited – usually as they assume you agree with them.And yes, I do avoid those people. Weird that you think that’s a poor reflection on me. But… I’ve never much been able to understand why people defend the status quo so passionately.
If I find out my coworkers have political views I find abhorrent, I definitely limit my interactions with them as much as possible. Which is easier in some professions than others – if I were an actor, for example, I might just go to my trailer to avoid spending time with someone like Schneider.

I saw one of his jokes and was really confused about why the audience was laughing so now I understand. His bit was: an airline is prioritizing diversity in the hiring of pilots. He was appalled because he thought their ability to fly safely should be top priority. He was basically saying the airline must be grabbing minorities off the street and hiring them as pilots rather than picking from a pool of skilled experienced pilots. The audience was laughing like he was George Carlin. Makes more sense now.
