Continuing his intense political engagement, Sean Penn traveled to Ukraine to deliver one of his two Oscars to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In a video shared by Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko, the actor whips the Oscar out of his knapsack and plants it on the table, naming Zelenskyy the Best Actor for Penn’s role in either Mystic River or Milk. However, it is unclear which statue he gave the president.

“It’s just a symbolic silly thing, but if I know this is here, then I’ll feel better and strong enough for the fights,” Penn said. “When you win, bring it back to Malibu because I’ll feel much better knowing there’s a piece of me here.”

In return for this gold statuette that Penn promised to smelt if Zelenskyy had not been invited to speak at the Oscars earlier this year, the Ukrainian president gave Penn the Order of Merit honor “for his sincere support and significant contribution to the popularization of Ukraine in the world.”

Penn is in the region filming a documentary on the war with Russia, which is currently in its eighth month of combat. However, his participation and activism on behalf of Ukraine have made Penn personae non-grata in Russia; earlier this year, the Russian government banned Penn, Ben Stiller, and 23 other actors from the country. Maybe if he gave Putin his Golden Globe for Mystic River, he could return to Moscow.

Before his recent visit with Zelenskyy, former National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien told Penn to “get the fuck out” of Ukraine. The Ukrainian government, however, has been very receptive to Penn’s participation. In a statement back in April, the Ukrainian Embassy said, “Sean Penn is demonstrating bravery that many others have been lacking, in particular some Western politicians. The more people like that—true friends of Ukraine, who support the fight for freedom—the quicker we can stop this heinous invasion by Russia.”

Here in the U.S., we remain eternally grateful that the Academy did not recognize Penn’s performance in I Am Sam.

“I also rubbed one out in a hydrangea bush, because I’ll feel much better knowing there’s a piece of me here.”

    two shitty actors!

Say what you want about the rest of him as a person, but he really does put his money where his mouth is when it comes to activism. During Katrina, he went out in a boat to rescue people from the roofs of their houses.

Wish more actors would do more to help Ukrainian Nazis get weapons like Sean Penn. Those guys need guns more than poor people need healthcare in the USA.

and hew gave them his B’nai B’rith award?

I’m actually a little surprised by his support of Ukraine.
He’d been ok with supporting some pretty horrid folks in the past, ones that Putin’s regime was in favor of. Perhaps he got a better look at “behind the scenes” of what he’d been lending support to and changed his outlook?
It doesn’t always happen, but if it does, that’s something to admire too, as it can be massively difficult, especially as one gets older.

Yup, even I have to admit Penn is not your typical wokester. He actually gets off his ass and does stuff. Plus he’s rich.

Or, hear me out, Penn gave him an Oscar for making people think he is some kind, benevolent person, rather than the sex trafficking, corrupt thug we used to know him to be. Here we are, pumping all this money into a fight between two Russian gangsters, and all the while innocent people in both nations are paying the price with their life, and the rest of the free world with their economy. Both Putin AND Zelenskyy should be taken out of commission and replaced asap, before we suddenly realize we’ve been played this entire tim. Wake up people.

Nobody wants to say it out loud but Americans dont really give a fuck about Eastern Europe. Republicans dont give a shit about dead foreigners and Ukrainians are too white for wokesters to give a fuck.

Let’s give these guys more guns and money. Who even wants affordable healthcare anyway?

  • gterry-av says:

He should have given him the Jeff Spicoli checkered Vans (assuming he still has them). I would rather have those than one of Penn’s Oscars.

  • daveassist-av says:

Interesting… I’m not surprised that one of our resident Kremlin employees (that pretends to be other things) is here, but I was surprised to see that we had another couple of fellow travellers, or perhaps just angry Republicans, fertilizing the comments.
