Shout Out Louds release “Blue Ice,” a record actually made out of ice

Aux Features Music

Indie rockers Shout Out Louds have released “Blue Ice,” their first new piece of music in three years, in an extremely limited-edition 7-inch single that plays on, well, ice. There are only 10 kits capable of producing the record, each of which comes with a mold and a bottle of water to freeze in that mold to make an ice-based record. “Blue Ice” is the first single off the group's upcoming, as-yet-untitled, full-length album—an album that hopefully will not also be exclusively distributed via something that melts and has the potential to ruin electronics.

Interested in listening to one of these ice records yourself? Merge Records is giving away one of the kits. To enter, send your mailing address to [email protected], and be sure to include “Blue Ice Kit” in the subject line of the email. The contest ends on Monday, December 3.

In the meantime, watch Shout Out Louds guitarist and singer Adam Olenius demonstrate how to make the “Blue Ice” record below. [via Pitchfork]
