"Stop" what you're doing and watch HAIM and Emma Stone lip sync the Spice Girls

Last August, we reported that four out of five original Spice Girls would be coming together in 2019 for a long-anticipated reunion tour. Presumably, any diehard fans out there have already purchased their tickets along with airfare to the U.K. (sorry, Spice fans, there’s still no U.S. dates), but if you haven’t managed to get your affairs in order, Emma Stone and the sisters from HAIM are here with a fun offer. Here, let them tell you about it in lip-sync form:

While recreating the music video for the Spice Girls’ 1997 song, “Stop,” Stone and HAIM offer fans the chance to accompany them to a Spice Girls concert in London as part of a VIP experience. All you have to do is donate money through Omaze—a company which regularly facilitates these kind of celebrity meet-ups—and you could be standing around in a green room asking Sporty why Posh Spice thinks she’s too good for this shit. All donations will benefit charities like Girl Up, Child Mind Institute, and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

Hmmm….Who knew Mayer Hawthorne sampled The Spice Girls?

Tip: remove the “watch?v=” to do that thing Hastings&Japp did a minute later.

I’m well aware of how YouTube embedding works here, but for some reason it didn’t work this time. It’s worked every other time I’ve embedded a YouTube video in Kinja, with that exact same URL structure.

Does the blonde Haim sister make all of those ridiculous faces as she singing? Shit was hella distracting when they did SNL, in addition to her constantly clearing her throat from the ‘drip’ as they were doing the closing sequence…

that was uh… pretty cool actually.i wish i could win that since i really only know who emma is, and tbh id LOVE TO SEE THE SPICE GIRLS!i had their shirt when i was 12. i wore it to school, that was apparently not cool for a guy.

It’s ironic that Posh is the most famous Spice Girl because she’s always been the most inessential.

Like the old saying goes: “In front of every famous woman there’s a man whose more famouser, therefore the famous woman doesn’t really have to do anything anymore if she doesn’t want to”

These Omaze things always look so cool, like the one where you could play Dodgeball with the cast of Dodgeball.https://youtu.be/4iw1jTY-X3A

I just don’t get this Haim thing. Every time I see or hear them I think, “Why?”

    • coolhandtim-av says:

I very much like their first album (note: I’m a 46 year old white guy). Their music is a combination of 70’s power pop and 80’s melodies. They’re very talented musicians. That said, they’re annoying as shit as people. But the music? Yeah, it’s pretty darn good. I will applaud any modern music that has actual musicianship in it, not manufactured beats, so two thumbs up for Haim.

      • smudgedblurs-av says:

That’s fair. I respect that they’re engaging in some genuine musicianship and I’m glad the bass player enjoys herself so much.

I’m normally super into power pop so I’m not sure what the deal is. Maybe I wish it was 25% more guitar focused.

        • coolhandtim-av says:

I can appreciate that. Some bands just don’t do it for me either, even though everyone in the universe is into them. [See: Radiohead] You do you, man!

p.s. If you ever attempt a second listen of them, Danielle (lead singer and guitar) was a touring guitar player for a while, and has some decent chops. Haim isn’t solely a guitar band, true, but if you watch any live concert footage (there’s quite a bit out there) you’ll see she does a lot more shredding than on the slick, overproduced album cuts.

They make music, they aren’t famous for being looked at

      • smudgedblurs-av says:

And I listen to them and feel nothing. I don’t get who they are or what they’re meant to be. It’s a uncharacteristic non-reaction for me.

    • scortius-av says:

Stop trying to make Haim happen.

  • dbradshaw314-av says:

I will indeed watch Emma Stone lip sync. Or do anything else, really. She’s real purty.

  • koharskisdoughnuts-av says:

HAIM are like superheroes. When with Emma Stone: Quirky, down-to-earth, as-regular-as-you-can-be-when-you’re-this-famous trio. When with Taylor Swift? Glamazons:
