On paper, Julie Delpy’s 2 Days In Paris might well read like a light French farce, full of wacky characters and playful relationship banter that only turns serious toward the end of the film. The reality is much more raw. Playing a thirtysomething couple making a brief stopover in Paris after a vacation to Italy, Delpy (Before Sunrise) and co-star Adam Goldberg snipe at each other with casual venom, refusing to acknowledge or accede to each other’s calls for comfort or reassurance. When he says she’s special, she shoots back “Like in the retarded way, which is why I’m going out with you.” When she gives him more information than he wants about something, he says “It’s like dating public television.” They both seem a little neurotic and a little self-centered, but mostly, after two years together, they’ve apparently run out of reasons to be kind. And while their give-and-take is almost playful, both actors put an uncomfortable edge on it, fit to keep viewers squirming with alternate waves of sympathy and disgust. []

Oh man, there are a lot of gems on this list, so many of them don’t even need any more talking up, so I’ll just champion Priceless. I already have it and have watched it at least once a year, five times in the first year alone. Once you get the beats and at the end realize like a lot of french farce that it’s not so much about the ending/punchline so much as the individual moments and scenes you’re in, it just gets better on multiple viewings. And it still holds up.

Priceless is indeed fantastic. Audrey Tatou has never been more charming. I love the initial scenes where she ends up with the cocktail parasols in her hair.

LOL, I’ve often cited that bit as one of my favorite fun and beautiful edit cuts (she finishes one drink, asks for another, cut to that wavy aerial shot of her head). The new wristwatch scene where she spits out her drink is, of course, priceless.

Never seen it, never even heard of it, but if it’s got Audrey Tatou, I’ll watch it.

PLEASE do… and then report back. Her co-star, Gad Elmaleh, was the real revelation for me.

I saw 2 Days in Paris in theaters and it is hands down one of the most unfunny films I’ve ever seen. The characters are unlikable and boring, and the plot is about as fresh as a dead horse in the sun. It’s basically the Woody Allen movie you never wanted or asked for, and then reenacted by Jerry Lewis’s holocaust clown in a private matinee. Julie Delpy, a master of subtly, even set the unnecessary sequel in New York (2 Days in New York).Anyway, do yourself a favor and avoid this film.

Charade is a lot of fun. I only just saw it a few months ago, and the first thing that crossed my mind was that it must be a Hitchcock film as well. Hepburn and Grant are what make it of course. One of my favorites on this list.

I’m not really the target audience, but I do like some rom-coms. His Girl Friday (on this list) and Obvious Child (not, presumably because it’s not on Prime) were great! The Big Sick didn’t do much for me, though. Nanjiani was really good on Burning Love, but I didn’t find him funny in this.

I liked Set it Up which isn’t on this list, it doesn’t have a terrific plot but the cast is really good (Zoey Deutch, Lucy Liu, Glen Powell, Taye Diggs, Pete Davidson, Meredith Hagner, Tituss Burgess) so it was a fun watch.

I didn’t bother with your slideshow. The best romantic comedy on Prime is, with the best on-screen couple:

I know anime is not everyone’s cup of tea — but “Wotakoi: Love is hard for an otaku” is just a delightful romcom about adult office workers with nerdy hobbies and it is on Amazon Prime. It’s just like 12 episodes and at 20-something minutes each, you can binge it easily in a day.

You included Woody! I thought he was on your naughty list.

The Big Sick definitely has its charms and is worth watching. [spoilers, kind of] I did not love the ending sequence, as I thought that her reaction to the person who helped save her life was overly harsh. You spent the first act telling him that the relationship cannot be long-term, then get mad at him with your heart-hurt overreaction because his family insisted that he meet Pakistani women on programmed dates. It was not a mature outlook, as presented in the film. He was all goofy over you, lighten up, romance has obstacles, or why the film.

Recently watched About Fate – came out a few months back, stars Emma Roberts and Thomas Mann. Enjoyed that movie as the leads had good chemistry and were fun to watch together.Agree with someone else here that Set It Up is solid too for pretty much the same reasons (Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell are fun to watch).
