The Crown's Claire Foy is the new Lisbeth Salander

Aux News Unknown

Variety reports that Claire Foy has been crowned the new Lisbeth Salander. Back in May, the actress, who plays Queen Elizabeth II on Netflix’s The Crown, was rumored to succeed Rooney Mara in the role. Now the studio’s confirmed that Foy will lead The Girl In The Spider’s Web, the sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (which was itself a reboot). Don’t Breathe’s Fede Alvarez is directing the movie, which was the first indication that Sony was taking reviving the franchise seriously. Alvarez’s taut home-invasion thriller was one of the highlights of 2016's movie offerings, and Stieg Larrson’s Millennium trilogy seems like a good fit.

The Girl In The Spider’s Web has been scheduled for an October 19, 2018 release date, when it will compete with the new Halloween movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis.
